i didnt really want him. i didnt want coach to start him over bev and hinder our backcourt defense more. and i dont think he'd like being a backup playing only around 20mpg
Wanted him. But we can't match the money Dallas is offering him. Keep getting them checks D-Will. Hope you got a lifeboat heading to that sinking ship.
I was hoping this was just a thread bumped from 2009. That's the last time I'd actually want Deron Williams.
How much better does Deron Williams make the Mavs, or any team? There is a reason the Nets were wanting to get rid of him. Does 13 pts, 6 assists, and under 40% shooting making the Mavs that much better? Clearly his production would need to improve, which might happen. But the Mavs aren't as bad with or without him as everyone is saying. Which probably isn't a good thing for the Mavs. Not very bad, but certainly not very good either. So, they'll lose their first round pick, and stay not very bad and not very good. Possibly for quite a while. This changes, of course, if either Parson or Matthews, or both, doesn't recover fully from their injuries. Then Mavs could indeed be very bad, with a lot of money tied up in bad players.
Oh how times have changed. What happened to this guy? Was it the system that made him look so good at Utah? Was it all the ankle injuries? Did he just lose 'it?' Definitely wouldn't pay $5m/yr for him at this point. Maybe he'll bounce back, but I'm not taking that risk at this point. Better to wait it out and scoop up something off the radar, or Lawson, or just push ahead with what we've got and pray to whoever it is your pray to that we land Durant in '16. In Morey We Trust.
Marketing? From a basketball only perspective, is Williams currently any better than Harris? Or even Barea? Or, OMG...even Felton? You could make good arguments that he is not.
The only reason I can think of any Rockets fan who will want D-Will is that he really wants to see someone to choke McHale to death.
