Doesnt belong here I know but while we're discussing it I wonder if they would take a salary dump from Minnesota for Pek? He seems to be 3rd on the depth chart at this point with Towns and Dieng certain to get more playing time.
they can. They could poison pill Kj, make investments on Seraphin , take up Rio and Andersen in exchange of a prospect and they could have made that McCallum trade. They could take Nene and trade him later to Toronto or Pacers as expiring to fill holes at pf or do the same with Smith. etc etc They can also take Delly or JR Smith and trade them later for some assets.
So far Morey is winning the argument. The Rockets have traded away - -Alston -Brooks -Lowry -Lin and not resigned Dragic and every year have gotten better. The Rockets went from a hall of fame coach in Adelman to McHale.... They got better as a franchise. ........................................................... Jalen Rose says it best that "Positions were created so a novice could follow the game". Now having perimeter players that can facilitate the offense is important, but the Rockets have James Harden who is very much their best option as their "Lead guard" or lead perimeter facilitator. I'm guessing that Morey sees it as if you cannot get a player that is so good that its worthwhile to take the ball out of Harden's hands for that player, its better to have a player that complements Harden through defense, or floor spacing as a 3 point shooter. I absolutely think Morey wants an upgrade at PG ( or support guard in the Rockets offense) . Why wouldn't he? We all do. But he's not going to make a move for the sake of making a move. He obviously needs to see proof that THIS GUY actually improves the team. If he doesn't see that evidence, he's not making the trade, or signing the guy to a huge contract. I don't know why this is such an issue. You guys want guys like Rodney Stuckey and Corey Joseph, etc. but Morey disagrees with you that THIS GUY is a difference makers ON THIS TEAM playing next to Harden IN THAT ROLE. So disagree with Morey all you want, but the guy is doing his homework I can guarantee you that. He's not ignoring the PG position. He's realized that Harden is the PG until they find something that tells him the team is better otherwise, and in that time he's going to put players around Harden that MAKE HARDEN BETTER. Why people can't grasp this I do not know. (The McHale stuff is another argument for another thread).
Pekovic is the second worst contract in the league. Maybe even first before Deron Williams. That wouldn't be smart unless Minny is ready to trade Bjelica or smth else. Oh btw they can take Bennett from the Wolves for free. They want to dump him because he's expensive.
Will Barton Will Bynum Norris Cole (Shutter) Jimmer Fredette John Jenkins (forgotten guard from Atlanta) Austin Rivers Ish Smith There's not many Guards left in Free Agency, I'm not sure that we've been waiting this long to pick from these guys to run back up Point. Trade imminent?
Norris Cole is still on the market? He was doing great for NOP during the Holiday injury. I'd take him to back up Bev. But realistically, if we get a point guard, it'll be through trade.
Joe Johnson is overpaid. But he is still productive and plays and tries. Pekovic had a surgery that was the last resort and will have health problems even after his carreer is over. He wont even step on the court until February- March. The only hope for Minny is that he is convinced to medically retire.
I think you answered your own concerns in your own post. I personally think the Rockets do not want to just load up their roster with PG's who they know aren't going to be difference makers, and might get lost in the rotation as McHale will opt for other options, and they just wasted $ and assets to get a non-difference maker. Morey is dragging his heals? I don't see it. I see a GM who is focused on bringing back his team from the previous year, but not overpaying for his own guys. His silence on Josh Smith is their way of negotiating. They want both KJ and Smith back and they really only have the MLE as a mechanism to do so. That's going to take negotiation and time instead of picking one guy now and saying see ya to the other guy. Why isn't Morey at least addressing the backup PG position.... IMO Beverley was signed to EXACTLY what you'd see a primary backup veteran PG get. I think he's a guy ideally they want as the 3rd guard and backup eventually in that J. Jack/ role. Morey knows they need more play-making alongside Harden. Folks are acting like he's oblivious or saying F you to the team, Harden, and the fans. The guy isn't an idiot, and there is a reason why he didn't trade a first round pick for Ray McCallum, or use the full MLE on Rodney Stuckey. I don't know why after so much we've been through with him, why Rockets fans have so little trust in Morey and the front office that they freaking know what they are doing.
Can't say it's ideal but he's absolutely better than their backup option in Seraphin isn't he? Getting Bennett and Pek screams a deal that the Mavs would make to me but maybe I'm mistaken.
Pekovic is DONE. You don't understand the severity of the surgery he had. It's much worse than a simple achilles. I'm a fan of him before he entered the nba because he played for my greek team and I'm rooting fo the guy, BUT he's not worth the salary dumb. Bennet can be had for FREE. He costs 5 per and the Wolves won't pick up his option for next year. So he's not much of an incentive. If the Wolves want to give Dieng or Bjelica or a first pick then maybe they can dump Pek. His contract goes on for too long.
I'd sign him for the minimum and let him complete, but he hasn't been able to stay on the floor anywhere. If he could even play competent team defense like other slow shooters it would be one thing...he can't handle the ball well enough, can't defend a 3 legged dog and last year his shot disappeared to boot.
