I had to look up Ashby's definition of a foul tip, because I had never heard that before. Lo and behold, he was intriguingly correct.

That's putting it gently. He'll figure it out.

Gattis takes "never seen a pitch he didn't like" to the extreme.

A foul hit Castro in the neck area and stuck there for a bit between it and the upper part of the chest protector. Ashby said had it stuck there and then he grabbed it, it would not have counted as a foul tip. He said it first had to strike the mitt. He was correct. Although it appears it could be caught directly in the bare hand.

Pitch Gattis hit for the HR was 4'5" off the ground, the highest pitch hit for a HR in MLB this year

Yes. His HR^4ft to HRv4ft ratio is the best in the majors.

I would hope a former MLB catcher would at least know something about the position he played...

One would also hope that a professional broadcaster would know how to effectively broadcast. :)

I can't escape Alan Ashby even by listening to the Indians broadcast. One of their announcers was a teammate of his when they came up with the Indians, is wishing him a Happy Birthday, and is trying to get him to join them for a half inning later.

    He's not a professional broadcaster.

He's a former ball player "analyst" that was miscast as a pbp guy.
