Agreed with your last part. League's issue.

So why would the Clippers lose draft picks and get a heavy fine? "Fined for talked to a free agent." ? I would sue the **** out of the league if they tried to fine me for something that's well within the contract/rules.

I blame the Mavs for not keeping the full court press on. For not ensuring they had everything covered. For not making Deandre feel like he was walking on water until the ink was dry. Given the timelines, they should have insured their signing. And if it was inevitable, they should have had people smart enough to see this coming.

I don't think it matters, depending on perspective of the league office.

Does the league office view Jordan as a free agent at this point?

The league may look at the situation and say that DeAndre orally committed to the Mavs and as such the Clippers should have backed off.

The league may look at it and say, well we have a moratorium for a reason and it isn't done until pen is to paper.

The NBA can always fall on the "best interest of the game" nonsense that has been used in the past.

Honestly, the league did a lot of this to themselves.

Regardless there will be changes made.... the league will at a minimum will clarify the situation.

When it comes to professional sport leagues as powerful as the NBA, a lot of pressure is exerted on the owners and agents to do what the league wants.

My HOPE is that this weakens the power that Jordan's agent has, he does not do what is in the best interest of his individual clients. Yes they freely hire him, but he has not exactly been ethical IMO.

Cuban has dumped his championship center twice now, in pursuit of free agents

He IS a free agent until he signs a contract.

I get the whole, "they have wide latitude" thing. But honestly, I can't see the league taking away draft picks from the Clippers in this instance. I think that's absurd.

I'm with you 10000% on his agent.

I feel bad for Deandre Jordan. At first, no one on the team wants to meet with him because "he knows how they feel about him", so he gets a meeting with Doc alone and Doc has no answers for how they are going to involve him more in the offense. Then he announces his intention to leave and all of a sudden the team when faced with a hopeless FA situation(thanks to Doc's mismanagement of the roster) and the threat of being worse next year, all of a sudden decide - hey maybe we shouldn't take this guy for granted.

I'm not buying it. This team has a bunch of selfish players who clearly don't care about Jordan - they just don't want to lose next year. Surely someone will make Jordan see that.

Honestly, I don't think you would sue the league.... the Clippers would ultimately fall in line... look at the Chris Paul trade, Deflate Gate and any number of other situations, ultimately rich white guys fall in line with other fat rich guys... it is the way of sports in most cases.

Also, I cannot WAIT to see how Cuban responds... and I think it is fair to say all this nonsense about "GM Parsons" can stop.

Only thing league will do is eliminate the moratorium period. LAC & DJ are within their rights.

    EXCELLENT POINT!

This is the agent behind all this...not Parsons. Such a ridiculous narrative.

    Nook,
You are making your own rules and interpretations. There cannot be any agreement, verbal or written. Only negotiations.

    Section 14.

    Moratorium Period.
Except as permitted in the next sentence, notwithstanding any other provision of this Agreement, no player and Team may enter into any oral or written agreement concerning terms and conditions of the player’s employment, or reduce any such agreement to writing in the form of a Uniform Player Contract or amendment, during the Moratorium Period. The following shall be permitted during the Moratorium Period: (i) a player may accept any Required Tender, Qualifying Offer, or “Maximum Qualifying Offer” (as defined in Article XI, Section 4(a)(ii)) that is outstanding; (ii) a player and a Team may negotiate over the terms and conditions of a Player Contract or Offer Sheet that may be entered into following the conclusion of the Moratorium Period; (iii) a First Round Pick and the Team that holds his draft rights may enter into a Rookie Scale Contract; and (iv) a player and a Team may enter into a Player Contract, not to exceed two (2) Seasons in length, that provides for a Salary for each Salary Cap Year equal to the Minimum Player Salary applicable to the player (with no bonuses of any kind)

The bolded part is cut and dry. No agreements are allowed. All we hear from Woj reports and such is that the Player and Team have negotiated the terms that they will sign following the Moratorium. We can call it a promise or commitment, but it is not an legal agreement of any sort.

So, the league cannot do anything to the Clippers or the Player to continue negotiations.

    This is too funny.

I'd rather not have the Clippers breathing down our necks, but I'm just going to lay back and enjoy Mavs fans suffering if it happens.

No wonder the guy can't hit free throws. His mind is immensely weak.
