No! I love Shroeder to death but that makes us extremely liable on the wings. Again you do not trade to fill a hole and create another large one with absolutely no sure fill in especially when we really need a strong defensive wing to compensate for James Harden.

We need smith back. Smith signing last season gave us what we lost in parsons leaving. Another creator. If we dont sign another playmaker, then we need Smith back asap. It felt like smith was our second best player in the playoffs.

Yeah he makes some boneheaded turnover but without his playmaking we dont get nowhere the wcf this postseason. Smiyh was the biggest reason we were able to play that 4th quarter in the game 6 without harden cuz he can facilitate. We need to retain him asap. Hes too critical to our offense, specically when harden is having an off-game

But he does have some control over his own free agents. I'm a little concerned that nothing has happened with Smith and Terry. We're now over a week into free agency.

I really hope not. Chemistry takes time to develop and that gets multiplied if you are talking about adding another playmaker at guard. In the East you could get away with it but the West is too tough to be figuring things out mid-season. This isn't baseball, the core of your team carrying you through the playoffs is already defined before mid-season.

There are exceptions like with Brewer and Smith last year being added but those are rare occurrences and depend more on having cap exceptions to use. The Rockets don't have any of those at the moment. Coupled with K-Pap becoming guaranteed when the season starts means some sort of move should be coming before the season.

I've seen a lot of posters suggest that the Rockets won't do anything until the middle of the season. Why is that necessarily the case? Look at Morey's track record the last three offseasons. He traded for Harden in October in 2012 and signed Ariza on July 12 last year. The man has been patient in previous offseasons and waited to make the right deal at the right time. There's no reason to think he can't still accomplish something this offseason just because we haven't heard a lot of buzz in the media.

This would be amazing for us if we sign Smith. Not sure why the other team would want to do it though.

If that's the case we better pray Harden goes god made again like last year because there will be a lot of games where he's the only person who can score

I'd forgotten about cyberx's "Mo Williams was reached" post.

Which makes me wonder just how small they might be thinking as far as point guards go.

Of course, they're probably scouring high and low, not wanting to part with Trevor Ariza or some other valuable piece of the puzzle. "Well, how about if we get Mo Williams? Gone. Damn. Who's on the phone? Tell him we'll call back in a minute, still working on it...."

I can see Harden letting off the gas if we go in to the season with no "help". He asked for it and if nothing happens as far as his perception goes then I wouldn't be shocked if he backed off the effort level a bit.

It's not like these guys are actually getting degrees.

And for the ones that do, Sports Management won't do much for them.
