You do you. Don't let Bobby stop you. He's the resident troll around the Texans forum, and, increasingly, here. We just ask you not to stoke the fire.
if Mo is soooooo good, why isn't every team in the league pursuing him? we went to the WCF with a team he built. we're retaining every key contributor, and still have the ability to upgrade. morey is doing just fine doing nothing isn't bad. would you prefer him jump on signing mo williams right this second? what if tomorrow the nuggets make ty lawson available for cheap? not doing something every single second doesn't mean they aren't working. and when Kemba comes back, Mo goes back to nothing. because that's who mo williams is. all in all, you need to relax.
I understand we're looking for trades. And I would love to see a trade happen. But you gotta understand it takes 2 to tango. What if we can't find a trade partner? Are we going to settle for Prigioni being our primary backup PG? We're in win-now mode, so imo getting a legit backup PG should be our priority, and then we can continue to explore trade opportunities. I really don't understand why re-signing KJ suddenly became our top priority especially given the fact that our wing position is loaded with Ariza, Brewer, Dekker and Papa. If KJ gets an offer higher than 3M we should just let him walk.
Especially considering Morey's track record with being very involved in discussions. Everyone should know right now that Morey is not just sitting on his hands.
This fake award for "winning July" is such nonsense. Nobody won July more than the Mavs last Summer and the Nets the Summer before, and the Lakers the year before when they landed Nash/Dwight. By now if you are still getting pissed at Morey for not "winning July" and don't trust him to play the long game to improve the roster at the RIGHT TIME when he can actually make solid choices that don't variably increase risk I don't know what to tell you... You'll never be a Morey fan and trust the guy. You want your 2k roster that looks good on paper in July. Me... I'd rather love my roster in April/May/June.
So you're thinking use the full MLE to upgrade the PG position instead of using it for KJ or Smith? That's a fair opinion but I don't think we'll get anyone spectacular on the FA market with just the MLE. Have you notice the contracts people are getting? Did you see how much Cory Joseph got? If you can get a FA for the MLE, they probably aren't going to be much of an upgrade that we need. The only reason llull was intriguing for the MLE was because we had his rights and therefore leverage to sign him. Really not seeing how there's anyone out there that moves the needle for us for just the MLE.
To get LMA, the Spurs will have had to: - Trade Spitter - Lose Marco Belinelli to FA - Lose Joseph to FA - Lose Baynes to FA - Maybe lose Mills. Have to wait and see on that. - Re-sign Green to an UNDER market contract at 4/45 (e.g. Khris Middleton 5/70) - Re-sign Duncan to an UNDER market contract probably between 5 to 7M per. (vs 12 or 15M) - Re-sign Ginobili to an UNDER market contract at 2.8M Room Exception. The depth loss for an old team will be tough but they'll figure out something there. The 3 guys that took LESS MONEY to make the LMA acquisition happen is just huge though.
I am really hoping our prospects in Summer League do really well which leads to a trade upgrade in August (like the Artest deal in 2009). I am weary of trade deadline deals because they so rarely work (Drexler and Gasol are the exceptions).
Also, Morey has found some very good PG's that no one had on their radar many times (Lowry, Dragic, AB, and even Lin).
He has flaws as some of you have mentioned, but I'd still take him because he's better than any backup PG we have right now. And by the way, are you saying we shouldn't go after anyone unless he's pursued by every team in the league? I understand we're looking for trades. But what if we can't find a deal? We need insurance. Signing Mo Williams doesn't hurt our ability to acquire a PG via trade. For MLE who do you want? CP3?
Remember that time last year when a lot of posters (and analysts) claimed the Rockets would barely make the playoffs if not miss the playoffs because "they lost" the offseason? Yea. I remembererered
Just to post on the whole "PG" bruhahaha...aside from Curry, wasn't Rondo the last playmaking pg to win a ring in the NBA? How far ago was that? Hakeem didn't need a playmaking pg to win 2 rings MJ didn't need a playmaking pg to win 6 rings Kobe/Shaq didn't need a playmaking pg to win 3 rings Kobe/Gasol didn't need a playmaking pg to win 2 rings Shaq/Dwade didn't need playmaking pg to win 1 ring LBJ/Dwade/Bosh didn't need playmaking pg to win 2 rings Spurs certainly didn't need a playmaking pg to win 5 rings "Playmaking" is just something you need when your roster is full of guys who need help to score. Our team doesn't really need a playmaking pg when everyone is healthy because DMO, Dwight and Harden can all score all on their own..that's 3/5 of the starters the other 2 guys are spot up shooters( Ariza and Bev). Off the bench you then have playmaking from Josh Smith and either DMo or Harden will still be on the floor. And the Rox weren't even built to be a pretty offensive juggernaught like the Spurs or OKC, where every piece works like a machine and the sum is more than its parts. Houston is built more like the Miami Superfriends or OKC, using a combination of defense, spacing and star power to brutalize opponents. It may not be as pretty, but it works the Rox were able to reach the WCF missing two key starters. All these people hyperventilating about the Rox suddenly being losers by not signing Point Guard X (who isn't even worth the midlevel because guess what we don't have the $$$) need to STFU because obviously you guys have no idea what you're talking about. The Rox got the 2nd best record in the West and the WCF without this mythical low level playmaking pg, what makes you say they will suck without him this year?
If only they seeded the playoffs based on who thinks they have the best team in July, the Rockets would've missed em
and if papa and dekker get moved in a deal for lawson? KJ is already a better defender than brewer, and he's only 22. you keep your young assets. being in "win now mode" doesn't mean sacrificing the future. think beyond the first person you see in front of you. is mo williams a decent player? yes. but we don't desperately need him. and if we strike out elsewhere, he'll probably still be available. and if he's gone, leandro barbosa might still be available. we aren't going to sabotage getting ty lawson to get mo williams. it's not worth it. we went to the WCF with prigioni and terry getting major minutes. this team isn't horrible. it would be nice to upgrade, but we don't need to rush into any moves. we have a lot of options available, and we shouldn't just jump on the first one to present itself to us.
Do you think Morey and the front office hasn't thought all of this through already? They have a plan. I think Morey has done enough to earn some trust.
Μo will be a cav. No point discussing him. And as for a trade..you are naive if you think we havent one arleady lined up.
I am so pissed because Morey has let me down so many times. Last year Stuckey and Barbosa signed for minimum but we went with Ish Smith. Darren Collison was very cheap but we use that money to sign Papa who's a scrub. Mo Williams and Isaiah Thomas were available at the trade deadline and while we could have easily topped Charlotte and Boston's offers, we ended up with Prigioni. And now from what I've read, they are not planning use the MLE. I think I have very good reasons to criticize Morey. All of you keep saying a trade will happen. We've been saying this for 2 years, nothing happened. So what if we can't find a deal, are we really going to rely on the grandpas?
