And Morey's doing nothing. Honestly I am so fed up with him. How many serviceable guards could we have gotten last year?? Instead he wasted the whole ****ing MLE on ****ing Papanikolaou.
It's not a question on instilling fear. He is more competent than all of our PG's on the offensive end. He had a 52 point 7 assist game against Indiana, in the outgoing season, and more importantly, he continued to play well for the Hornets, after being traded. We get excited if someone on the Rockets scores 16 points in a game. Mo isn't finished by any means. He can play a role as a 6th man for a relatively low cost. I won't be surprised if the Spurs/ or the Cavs get him. DM will probably end up with Ish Smith again.
More like Daniels struck fear into him. Daniels nailed the game winner and hit most of his treys in that game. Mo went on the offensive in the media against Troy. But I get your humor.

I wan't someone that makes the team better. No way I use 1 ounce of the MLE on him when I need it to resign KJ McDaniels who is light years more valuable than Mo, even if just as a trade asset. Mo Williams does nothing to push Houston further over the top. He is a stop gap solution at best. He was not very good when he played for the Blazers. He is old (will be 33 in December). He is not a great defender, he is a below average 3pt shooter the last two seasons, and scored 17 ppg for Charlotte as a volume shooter. No thanks. I would rather stand pat and let Daryl Morey try to make a trade for someone more significant. Mo Williams does not make push us over the top.
Yeah, there are definitely guys I would rather have, but Papa's contract and a 2nd for Mo means we can give Charlotte complete relief of salary and him more money than anyone (up to about $7.2M) if we want to. I wouldn't hate having Papa as insurance on the wing, but I would much rather have Mo Williams, KJ, and Josh Smith than (potentially) just Mo Williams and Papa or Papa, KJ, and Josh Smith. Heck, even Prig, Dorsey and a couple 2nds for Williams would let us pay him $4M a year, even if we would have to sweeten the pot for Charlotte to do it. That is probably the ideal scenario for getting Williams, using the MLE to hopefully keep KJ, Smith and sign Harrell, plus allowing us to hold onto Papa's contract and TJones a while longer.
FWIW, I think the Spurs will actually GET someone with the Room Exception who (still) strikes fear into opponents: Manu Ginobili. I think the plan is for the Spurs to renounce their rights to Manu (and re-sign Duncan to a smaller contract) in order to create room to sign LaMarcus, hit the salary cap, and THEN re-sign Ginobili with the Room Exception. Damn, the Spurs are gonna be good next year.
.....in order to have an eminently trade-able contract, not because he thought Papa was All That. Take it easy. Morey isn't finished. Just because you haven't heard anything doesn't mean he isn't after a point guard. Jeeeeeee-zus.
We were never gonna have enough money to outbid the Kings. Too many players are getting 6+ mil a year which is more than the MLE. What would they be able to pay Manu then? That's asking a lot for the dude to come back for only the Room Exception at 37 years of age and his game on the decline. And keep in mind, he'd be asked to return and play a significant role on the team off the bench. It's not like he'd be resting most of the regular season and utilized primarily in the playoffs.
Mo Williams is a bottler. The only time he has had any success in playoffs was when he went up against Lin. The guy used to get his stats in regular season and then choke in playoffs.
