LOL we struck out again this season and no one's brave enough to admit it..at this point I don't feel that we can win the west..sorry but it is just the truth..still hopeful for a trade at least but i am already doubtful..i would gladly eat crow if we make it to the wcf this year again
Who did they strikeout on? LaMarcus Aldridge? A long shot from the start. Who else did they want and not get? They signed Brewer and Beverly for below market deals.
Also considering that we only have the MLE to work with, it is really hard to admit to striking out on a FA period we weren't really planning on playing in.
Remember how we were all excited to acquire JET last off-season because he was about to be this great trade chip as an expiring contract. Instead he comes to Houston AND BALLZZ out in playoffs (esp. elimination game against LA).... I have a feeling this off-season is shaping up like that (smaller moves that lead to bigger results) You can feel that we won't win the west, but we had GS on ropes in 1st 2 games of WCF minus two starters. Obviously it's debatable what would have happened with healthy bodies, but...
However, next year's agents will ask for a lot more knowing the cap is gonna go up even more. In the end, it might all be relative in a few years.
Last season is in the past. Look at what Cleveland has done just in the last few days and convince yourself that we can beat them in a 7-game series. You won't convince me. This team is 2 major pieces away right now from being able to win a championship. Not just 1 major player (Durant). But 2 major players. We need 2 more primo guys to beat Cleveland.
I agree. But it seems the MLE is the new vet minimum. The huge increase in cap space is even hurting the trade value of our assets (non guaranteed contracts). I fear our bargain contracts have the most value to other teams now. Unfortunately, they are also the most valuable to us as well if we're assembling a contender. Because of the seemingly rapid depreciation of our assets due to the big cap jump, I expect a trade sooner rather than later. Everyone will have huge cap room in the future. Expirings won't mean as much when that happens. Gotta cash in now.
You know that's a good point I hadn't thought of it that way. Our non-guaranteeds are really only good for salary matching purposes in trades. The real value will have to be in the rookies and picks we give. Lawson/Lowry's deal looks even better now with how cheap they are in comparison. Hopefully our own young players on long term low rookie scale contracts appreciate in value accordingly too.
Dudebro...we got to the GD WCF without DMO and PBev. I understand the want for a "splash" but COME THE F ON! This team is better than last years. Is that not good enough for you? Is an elite offensive post game at the 4 not enough for you? Is a pesky defensive 1 with a knack for knocking down clutch 3's not enough for you? WTF? You make me sad to be in your company, clutchfan. In the words of Zach Dela Rocha: WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, who would the board prefer at G between Brandon Jennings (DET) (Reggie got PAID - 5 yrs, $80M ), Ty Lawson (DEN), Jose Calderon (NYK), Ricky Rubio (MN) probably out because of $$$ in his contract & duration , or Darren Collison (SAC)? My gut tells me one of that pool ends up as either our starting PG next season (or lead backup). Trey Burke (UTH) doubtful or Darren Williams (BRK) might also be in play - but only if DWill's contract does NOT come with him (a la JSmoove).
