It didn't come close to capturing the magic of the original. The movie, to me, was just too silly. It was too predictable, and the characters were mostly annoying. Why invest so much money into a single dinosaur that's effectively a killing machine and would never be safe to expose to the general public? I didn't even think the dinosaurs looked all that great. On a ridiculousness scale, this movie wasn't too far apart from Club Dread. And I'd rewatch that movie anytime before this one.
Solid, had some silly parts. At least the t rex on the loose at the end isn't smart, capable of camo and body heat manipulation and all that jazz Did ANYONE feel bad for the assistant? She's just doing her job and the two boys practically were responsible for her getting eaten by a giant sea monster.

Aren't we supposed to believe that the Asian scientist man did this on purpose knowing it would eventually lead to chaos? Because the fat goateed man paid him to? Because the fat goateed man wanted to test out the Raptors as a military/hunting team?
Spoiler Injen was the hand behind the park I believe. They're the umbrella company from the first and second movies. Hammond's successor, the brown guy with the helicopter, was unaware the scientist had an agreement with D'Onofrio's character, who seemed to be pretty high up himself in Injen. He also alludes to using these dinosaurs for war instead of humans. Hence the creation of a super-dino that can camouflage and detect thermal. They didn't predict for it to outsmart them. Pratt's character was brought in to observe and find weaknesses, but then the dino escapes. Awesome movie. I had low expectations because the trailers looked average but I really enjoyed it. Loved the references to the original and the final dino fight was great. Who had the better flare scene: Goldblum or Bryce Dallas Howard?
Saw this one night after premiere night.... I have decided to not speak my mind on it but meh I'm bored. NO! its not as good as the first one. But I'm tired of people saying "It didn't capture the "MAGIC" of the first one. The people that say this are people who saw the movie at a very young age. EVERYTHING is magical when you are young even going to McDonalds for your first happy meal... With that said I'm sure that the children watching Jurassic World as their first experience with the franchise must have experienced the same magic when the mosasaurus jumps out of the water to eat the shark. The baby dino's petting/riding area. The first glance of a theme park that must have felt so real to them. Because you are old and grumpy does not mean this film was not magical for children or those who didn't go with the attitude of a film critic.... With that said^^^^... The film in a way is a subliminal shot at us..... Seeing dinosaurs is not "magical" anymore..... We have seen dinosaurs already so a new movie in the franchise wont really impress us. The audience in the movie is just like the audience for the movie. The people who once felt the "magic" when the park opened (Jurassic Park Came Out) no longer really care or feel it anymore.. You could be right. However, the first movie was directed by a master director, and I thought the story and characters were flat out better. In the first movie, you're relating to the characters who are in awe and wonder upon seeing these dinosaurs for the first time. And we're simultaneously relating to those characters, because back in 1993 or whenever it came out we had never seen something like that on the big screen. In this movie, the whole thing has been turned into a theme park spectacle. It just doesn't feel as "special" for the characters in this story, and consequentially it isn't for us either.
Absolutely agree, the first movie had better characters and a better storyline. Jurassic Park was groundbreaking and a real gem in cinematography. One of my absolute favorite films of all times. And yeah the first film's characters experienced so many different emotions and feelings that we the audience shared with them, since it was our first time seeing something that we probably never imagined we would see as well. The first half of the movie was magical and an explosion of feelings, the second part of the movie was survival horror. Jurassic World I feel offers something similar just not through the eyes of the characters. The characters coexist with dinosaurs. Dinosaurs are a part of theirs lives and future. After the first movie we too have already experienced Dinosaurs and in one way or the other its part of our scientific imagination. Now we get to experience what we didn't in the first film, the magic of the park. The magic of a Dino Disney World. Once again the film transitions into survival horror..... Just like the first one. I just think Jurassic World is a worthy addition to the Jurassic Park universe....
I guess its hard for me to feel the magic of this "Dino Disney World". My vision for what Jurassic Park could be from the first movie was a more intimate, safari-like experience. Not a Disney World with 20,000 people packed in and all those long-ass lines. Some parts appealed to me -- when they were out in the field, seeing the animals in their natural habitat. I like the gyrosphere concept also. But, story-wise, there was just too many stupid things going on... Spoiler Training dinosaurs for modern warfare? Designing a Predator-like dinosaur for no good reason? Having the raptors and the I-Rex (which was raised in isolation) "talking" to eachother ... wtf?
I think the intimate experience from the first film did not carry over because they completely ruined the children's characters.... And although I am defending Jurassic World I will admit that the children sucked in this film. They just felt random for some reason and without purpose. They were there for us to get emotionally involved yet they never executed that possibility. The first film allowed us to survive a night with the children and Dr. Grant through the unknown island crawling with animals that have extinct for thousands of years. The kids in Jurassic World put them selves into a bad position due to their own stupidity and got out of their bad position just as quickly as they got into it.... However^^ I didn't let those kids ruin the film for me. So too many stupid things going on? Do we not train lions and killer whales? Do we not train dogs to search for explosives or drugs? Have we not managed to take a wild animal and train it for different purposes? Yes. military raptors is stupid but trained raptors is not all that impossible. Not in a universe with dinosaurs at least. Why would they create a predator like dino? For no reason? Let me ask you this, if you are in a zoo would you rather see the bird cage and monkeys or would you like to see the lions and elephants and giraffes and rhinos and tigers..... Personally I want to see the giants and predators of a world unknown that exists today. The sheer magnitude of a lions jaw or the height of a giraffe is what fascinates us. If Jurassic World existed the same rule would apply. And I'm sure you would run to the T-Rex part of Jurassic World before checking out the smaller less exciting animals...... And last why is it impossible to believe these animals can somehow communicate? Many animals today show signs of extreme intelligence and communication skills..... Goofy at times yes but I wouldn't say its stupid....
I saw Jurassic World to be the vision of what the original guy (Hammond?) in the first film wanted the park to be. He referenced Disney having problems with their attractions to begin with. He was commercializing it all big time. He "spared no expense" to make the attractions tourist friendly. I saw Jurassic World as exactly what that guy had hoped to create.
That's the very premise behind them creating the new dinosaur, right? That people had gotten tired of seeing regular dinosaurs...and wanted to see them as bigger and more ferocious. I mean..that's the story they were trying to tell. And after 20 years, that makes a lot of sense, honestly.
