Why? The current team minus two starters made the WCF, why wouldn't the same team at full strength be able to make a similar run?

Pretty sure Les was about to have one of the highest payrolls in the NBA when we were trying to go after Bosh. Just because he is not blindly throwing his money away doesn't mean he isn't willing to spend.

We didn't have to go up against the thunder or the new and improved spurs

San Antonio got way better, OKC will be healthy, Dallas improved IMO, and Memphis is healthy and improved. Going in with the same exact roster as last year will be playing with fire. Without a 2nd playmaker on the team I don't see how we will be better than OKC,Golden State, Memphis or San Antonio.

San Antonio is still old and slow, and they lost a lot of depth.

We don't know that Durant will be healthy any more than we ever knew that Yao was going to be healthy

Memphis might have improved to the point they are a legit rival.

    The Clippers are dead

    The Blazers are dead

    The Mavs got worse

The top seed in the West will likely come down to the Rockets, Dubs (if they stay healthy again), Grizzlies, and Thunder. The Spurs aren't in contention for the top seed because they are old and have to rest people so often to try and have them available for the playoffs.

we won't go in with the same roster as last season so it doesn't matter.

    Have to disagree.

As pointed out in an earlier post, Les has indicated a willingness to pay if there is value.

But more to the heart of your post, throwing money around to 'prove' you are a good owner has not worked. The only owners I can think of are James Dolan and the uniquely crappy Knicks that were paying $50,000,000.00 a couple of years in a row around the Isiah Thomas era (as well as under Layton, I think). That 'good ownership' only opened Dolan up to ridicule.

The other (I think he qualifies) is Prokorhof, and that team at best barely sniffed the playoffs in a really bad Eastern cconference.

I don't see the ownership of either of those teams being a selling point.

in a couple years when just the cap alone is $110M, morey's value investing methodology may not be as useful as in past years though -- with every team awash in cash to spend it will simply be about who can sweet talk and snap up the better players the quickest

i'm aware of what forbes puts out, i just don't ever think it's accurate in the least

hypotheticals scenario. we don't know that DM didn't want to dump lin's $15M contract anyways and we don't know that he would have matched chandler's $15M contract either. what we do know is that les has never paid lux tax in 22 yrs (ok he paid a negligible amount 1 season)

So the fact that Harden said himself he needs help in the backcourt doesn't mean anything? Do we really want to run Harden to the ground by having him run the offense yet again by himself? We have like 6-7 forwards on the team yet we only have Harden, Bev, N. Johnson, Terry?? as our potential backcourt, do you see the problem here? We NEED another playmaker in the backcourt.

ya i'm not saying he has to spend $ recklessly just to get headlines. but at the same time he is probably closer to the other extreme of the spectrum and that could be part of why relativity outwardly pushes their clients away from us.

management is more important than ownership. The problem comes when ownership because of financial issues gives up talent when the team is contending. And a good managment + ownership willing to pay > good managment + poor ownership. It also may piss off stars.
However there is no point speculating now. Because there will be more money coming in from the tv deal in the owners pockets. There is also a high chance we have a lockout and the epoch of the insane contracts ends.

Bobbythegreat the Spurs will be there and you can best believe will be the favorite to rep the West. Adding Aldridge puts them in the top 3. Warriors, Rockets and Spurs.

I don't doubt that people think that right now. They also said the exact same thing about the Thunder this time last year. Any time your season is entirely dependent on the heath and performance of a 39 year old athlete, you have a lot of uncertainty.
