I wonder if this is to get Santana playing everyday in AAA instead of riding the bench here. He's our most advanced prospect that's still a minors guy (assuming Correa, LMC, and Singleton are up here for good) and will likely be targeted by other teams in trades.
That presumes Marisnick becomes the everyday CF. He wasn't at the time of his injury. But I doubt he sits for Alex Pressley that much.
A rehab start for Rasmus might have been good, he's looked like a guy that had been inactive for a week. Buchholz was excellent, sometimes you get shut down.
Can you do rehab starts for guys who were never on the DL? I really don't know the answer to that, but I'm sure its some sort of roster provision allowed in those circumstances.

Springer made a start for CC on May 12 earlier this year after missing a few games and I thought we could do the same with Rasmus. I just looked it up and he was on the 7 day concussion DL (didn't know that existed), so you're probably right.
If the player isn't on a DL (7-day concussion, 15-day or 60-day) they can't just be sent out to play a minor league game. They're in the active major league roster. They'd have to be demoted to do so.
intriguing. i didn't watch much AL ball before the astros were shakendown to make the move. Is DH'ing in the fist spot normal?
