I don't want to be negative or anything but I believe that the Spurs will bring in a center. IMO.

they likely sold him on the idea of being the main star of the team and..most importantly $$$$$. They worked a s+T with portland for markief and would give him 1+1 max which would retain his bird righs and then next season with another cap rise be a fa again and sign a 5 super max.
That's the only way it makes sense.

I kind of get the impression Aldridge wants a team built around him as the first option, and he wasn't getting that in Houston. It's the only way that the Lakers and Suns make any sense to even consider, and it's likely a role he will be taking with the Spurs.

Aldridge career is going to be similar to Tim Duncan's now. Tim Duncan played with David Robinson and won 2 championships together and then Robinson retired. I see a similar thing with Aldridge and Tim Duncan. They will win one championship together, then Timmy retires and now Aldridge takes the role of Tim Duncan.

^ that's a Hollywood script. LMA is not. Mr Fundamental. You are forgetting that big difference

If LMA was as versatile as Duncan, he would have achieved more by now

Or do you think Duncan is all Pops doing

This. LMA is good, but he's no Duncan.

These days in the NBA an elite guard is more important than an elite big. Unless Parker regains form SA is still missing that great guard play that other elite teams feature. LMA helps them but maybe not as big as one would think.

The entire Spurs philosophy is sort of that it's built around no single player. I doubt Aldridge is going to have a bigger role with the Spurs than he had with Portland.

But he'll have a bigger role with the Spurs than their current "stars" have... mainly you won't see Pop "resting" him on back to backs, and sacrificing regular season wins in order to stay "fresh" for the playoffs (which ultimately cost them enough in the standings this season).

The Spurs also used to utilize the post-up game much more when Duncan was younger.... Aldrich will help re-charge that aspect.

Yeah, but the Spurs aren't the Blazers. A lot of people thought Duncan would be no more than a glorified role player two years ago and the Spurs would be too old to compete.

Well Aldridge is no Duncan. But he will keep them relevant. They are rebuilding on the fly. If they can get another star while Aldridge is still in his prime, look out.

I dont know why people are questioning if Duncan can play center. He's basically been playing center for the past 4 season.

This past year alone, the majority of the time (approximately 70%) he's played has been as a center. These are lineups without Splitter or Baynes and instead with Diaw or Bonner as the 4.

He's been their de-facto center his whole career, Pop also said it.

Until 2nd round. Rockets need a real PG who can create for himself and others for at least for 10-15 mins. This will greatly save Harden for the 4th quarter. Also Rockets need somebody from the bench who can score a bunch. Why not get Mo Williams? JLin seems a fit but a lot of Clutchfans will throw a fit.

Bev can be the starter but will be a great toll to Harden offensively. I really prefer somebody like Crawford but he's too expensive.

pretty much, though I do think he actually spent more of his time as a pf the first 10 years. Too lazy to check the splits for all those years on basketball reference lol. :p

But if Aldridge is looking to be a #1-option type with a team built around him, the comparison is not to what other Spurs players have done. He'd be comparing to what he would have with the other teams he was considering.
