Does Morey look like more of a mastermind now with the Ariza deal?

His salary during the new cap is basically the same % as a 5.4m salary in the old cap

    Re-sign Morey. 5 year / $40 million.

Pretty sure he's going to ask for a one-year deal to better capitalize on the salary cap jump to come.

I know Morey gets all the credit but people always leave out Houston. Morey wouldn't even have considered Ariza if he could have gotten Parsons for a few mil less with some outs that benefitted the rockets. But Cuban did everything he could to make that contract impossible to match. Ariza was an after thought.

The fact is Ariza wanted to come here. He could have gotten the same money with the Wizards. Kudos to Morey for realizing Ariza was every bit as good as Parsons and seeing a bargain and jumping on it. That he deserves credit for. But signing Ariza was more of a no Brainer after losing Parsons.

I do believe Morey is very astute on analytics and cap space and value but I also believe he is weak in people skills. He doesn't get for some playerss it's about relationships. Everyone wants to be wanted and they want to see your organization as a real team and not a bunch of egos out for themselves.

San Antonio, Pop and Duncan do that better than anyone else. The make players feel like they are joing a family of winners. The Rockets try to sell you on our facilities, the economy, lots of night life and how much more u get with your money. Yes Morey is a few steps behind in that area. Which costs us sometimes.

Always looked like a steal imo, many people loved the contract and thought Ariza sold himself below value.

Give credit to Ariza for turning down a LARGER contract (again) in Washington, and wanting to play a role in a winning team.

Let's just hope Maury does him good.

Rafer -> Lowry -> Lottery pick -> Harden

    vs.

    Unprotected 1sts -> Old KG -> Thad Young -> Paying Thad Young $12 mil/yr

A year from now, most contracts signed before 2015 will look like a steal -- except for Parsons of course .

Ariza's contract was viewed as a fair deal last year. He was known to be a good defender and his shooting had improved but was not sure if it was a fluke. He is still what he was a year ago. His shooting wasn't a fluke but you wouldn't call him a deadeye shooter either. If you didn't look at the crazy FA salary inflation this offseason so far, you would still think he's worth about 8-10M per year.

Other GMs are learning chess while Morey is mating.

Where we're at now... assuming no LA. Considering the kinds of deals guys are getting right now and where the cap is headed. Was it still the right decision to let Parsons walk (assuming health)? You'd have Ariza & Parsons. Maintained flexibility... have yet to cash in on it. I'm fine as-is. Just saying.

Our outlook would be better than 12th in offense and you'd still have your defensive ace.

Yes the contract for Ariza is good, but he's also not nearly as good on offense as most of the guys getting these big money deals.

He is just as inadequate offensively as Shumpert.

One of these days we gonna cross the line when we stop criticizing Morey and agree with everything he does. Fans criticism is what makes GMs and owners not to get casual with their jobs, never to relax. Even though Morey is a god, never tell him that, otherwise he'll stop giving 110%.

It basically replaces Parsons' contract with us as one of the most valuable and tradable contracts in the NBA
