A full MLE deal cancels out the buyout. He'd be making more than his current contract. He's never coming over now. It's now or never. PGs have a shorter shelf life. 3-0 is the magic number. He'll be too old, too expensive.
The full MLE is ~$5.3m .... The buyout is roughly equal to that (The Rockets can kick in $650k). He'd basically be playing a season to pay off the buyout. That doesn't make any sense when he can wait a year and have a much lower buyout and with the cap increase likely get a much larger salary next season.
At this rate, his rights aren't worth ****. It is a shame he isn't coming over but I personally didn't want him to anyways. Dude hasn't played a single game in the NBA. And with the type of money he was offered, it was a huge risk. Like a Vspan times 10 risk. His rights should have been traded a year or so ago
Don't ever trade his draft rights. Keep this SOB locked down and don't ever bring him to Houston. He'll never play in the NBA.
He wouldn't have signed a 1 yr deal. He's getting the NBA equivalent of $2.7M/yr in Spain. Even on a 2yr MLE deal after the buyout it works out to be about $2.8M/yr. The buyout is lessened and stretched if Llull sells his overseas rights to RM. Then there's no state income tax that deducts from the 2x tax multiplier.
