That's what I thought too...I was like, "damn, he was such a great guy in the clubhouse that they needed to bump him up already".

Daz will most likely never develop 20+ HR power but if he can hit 12-15 while getting on base at a high clip he will be very valuable. He is a lock to stay in center, great defender.

Just from reading the reports from all the draft experts. He's not a particularly big kid and his swing is more line drive, flat planed.

So all pro baseball players reach their full potential at 18 now? We better start trading our 24-25 year olds immediately.

I used to read this forum called AstrosConnection (I think that is what it wasc called). There was a very strong core group of posters there that were well respected but had very firm opinions about things. If anyone posted something they felt was ill-informed or contrary to those opinions there were typically big pile-ons. They would hammer people and insinuate they were stupid. It always bothered me to the point I pretty much never posted there, just lurked.

I really, really hope this forum doesn't turn into that.

In his California League debut last night, Jake Nottingham went 1-4 and drew a walk.

He did say most likely as in less than 50%. The vast majority of draft picks will never make the majors. Even a guy that is as highly rated as him probably has a less than 50% chance to hit 20 homers in a season. It is very easy to know that he is unlikely to hit 20 homers in the majors. Whether he does it or not is to be seen and is unknown.

No. Some players project better than others though, but nothing is for certain.

His dad was drafted in 1991, but didn't break out as a major prospect until 1996, at age 23. Mike hit 0 HRs in 1993 as a 20 year old in A ball, 6 HR in 94(A+), 11 HR in 95(AA), and 28 in 96(AA).

That's pretty much the majority of message boards. There's no syntax around a post so it's hard to have a discussion where you have points and counter points. Then even if that happens, people tend to be more focused on winning than learning why another person thinks differs from their views and vice versa.

I not a huge message board guy aside from Clutchfans. But the Astros forum here has probably been the best forum I've ever posted in. The mass exodus due to the sucking left a pretty small community of knowledgeable and dedicated fans. The discussion usually was point -counter point, not a whole lot of obnoxious bickering.

It's all of the "this guys is terrible, why haven't we gotten rid of his ass" type posts that are so common in the GARM that drive us nuts here. As the forum's popularity has started to grow with success, the obnoxious behavior is starting to creep in. It has led to some of us being maybe a little overly defensive.
