Watched the second episode again and I enjoyed it more than I did the first time around. It's not a super clear show to follow but not impossible. As for this; Vaughn - What exactly does he do? Some kind of City planner? Mobster? What? Mobster trying to go legit via a large land deal, worked his way up to top dog but wants to be done with the life. Farrel - Detective Homicide? Believe so, pretty everybody in Vinci is on the take. McAdams - Detective Vice? Correct, tasked with keeping an eye Farrel for state Inv. Kirsch - Detective [promoted] but really a member of CHIPS? Trying to be cleared of incident with starlet, they offered him a promotion but really just wants to be Chips again.
All CHiPs are gay. We established that decades ago. Besides dude had to take a Viagra and spend 30 minutes in the bathroom to get it up for a hot Latino babe who was begging for it And recall their breakup argument, Super hot babe: "you don't fick me enough." CHiPs: "this is on you. Not me" Plus, he's moving back in with his mom who dotes over him GAAYEe Note also. That if we can't turn him straight soon, we can kiss the hot Latino goodbye and blame him for no scenes of the nude
Yeah, Oedipus (Chips) gigs his mom, Antigone hangs herself, eyes get gouged out. Case closed. Bring on the return of Joe Pesci for season 3.
Good points here. I've done a lot of rewinding myself, but I've also been watching on my phone on plane rides so maybe I'm just missing the dialogue because of engine noise. I hate the opening theme song. I get that they're using the same musician as last year, but the mood is different and the song is just terrible. The trailer song prior to the season was much better. And Vaughn reflecting in bed didn't sell me at all. I laughed at the forced acting and eyebrow twitches. He doesn't have to be McConaughey 2.0 to tell a sad story. Tell it like Vince Vaughn normally talks and it would be fine and convincing, not the contrived drawn out way he did it. Damn it Lin.
Its not the same musician as the first season. Last year it was some lesser known act, this time they got Leonard Cohen, but of all his songs they choose that one and I agree it just doesn't work.
Not sure why all the hate for CHiPs... Spoiler He's clearly suffering from PTSD from time at war... "I told you I don't talk about the desert..." To me, of the main characters, he has the most interesting and intriguing back story - reminds me of Rust Cohle.
Sounded like a knockoff of Blackwater which to me is different than war. same set of problems I guess.
Agreed, most of those guys are ex-military so it will be interesting to hear more of the back story. Either way, he clearly did some messed up ****.
I noticed that as well and thought that was strange, but cool to see. Also a Tecate sign which I'm sure is common in Cali.
True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto is fond of Texas, he spent a lot of time in Austin, so it makes sense. His 2010 book Galveston: A Novel is pretty good.
agreed. thought that opening scene was kind of cringe. it just seemed too forced, agree that they just need to let Vaughn be himself.
Lulz. True. I'm fine with it. Every Cohen song is the same song anyways, you have snobs in here trying to pretend like there's a difference.
There is no way to ever recreate the euphoria of your first time doing something. This show is going to be fine and interesting... it feels sort of like the Chinatown. (Polanski/Nicholson 1974 ... worth a watch)
