Again the Lakers are worse than even Dallas. The Spurs even have to shed some player to make it work.
Not really. You give up Ariza, Jones, Papanikolaou, and Dorsey which other than Ariza are either expiring contracts or are not guaranteed and you are pretty close and the only worth a damn player you have in the trade is Ariza. As to cap space, what are they going to do with it this off-season? Nothing, so why not pick up Ariza and have a bunch of expiring contracts to go after someone next off-season?
Spurs don't need to shed anyone. And LMA lives in LA…and they'll have more money than they'll know what to do with next offseason. Money matters…and the Rockets do not have money.
No way would I offer DMo or Capela. Let Portland get nothing for him if that's what they want. I'm sure everyone wants to live and play in glamorous Oregon, they'll have no problem luring FA's.
Plumolee who is a reclamation project and meyers who doesnt play like a center and whos about to enter the final year of his rookie contract. Just because a team is rebuilding it doesnt mean it will tear it all down. They still have an all star lillard and some good young players. This isnt the east that you have to activelly try to lose to have a high pick.
Umm, I believe he would want to come to Texas more than LA. His kid lives near San Antonio. Go back and read some posts. People on here said that the Spurs would have to get rid of Green and Splitter for LMA to sign.
Why would they want Ariza for two more years? They just got rid of Batum, who's essentially the same player. They want to completely free up cap space…not be on the hook for 8 million a year to Ariza for two more seasons. And if they are losing LMA, why would they want to win next season? They're better off losing LMA for nothing…than gaining players that could add 5-10 wins to their win total. They want 100% cap flexibility along with a top 10 pick in the draft.
If we have to include Capela, I am out in regards to wanting LMA. We need to have someone to spell Howard during the season.
The Spurs have 33 million committed to the roster for next season. The salary cap will be around 65 million. Easy math.
Then you dont get lma. Simple. Houston isnt in such a position of power since they absolutely need portlands cooperation. And btw THIS is the season for a not major market team to go and spend money. And thats why portland will try to do it. Next year everyone will have capspace and they will be left with the last leftovers.
I had the same argument for Ariza. Someone came back to me and said with the rise in Cap his contract will be a bargain.
Then so be it. Of course, the Rockets learned last off-season that cap space doesn't really help you when your targets don't want to play for you.....but I'm sure they'll have no problems with that and they'll be glad they turned down draft picks for cap space.
That's fine with me, I'm not really into the idea in the first place. I just think that Portland will be left with the last leftovers no matter how much cap space they have.
It is a bargain, even now….but not for a team that is somewhat dismantling and looking to gain every dollar they can. For a team like the Rockets, the Ariza contract is great…for a team like the Blazers, it just hinders them from doing what they want to do.
I don't understand why we have to give our whole roster for a guy who will be 30 next season. I know he is a star player but, it is not like he is Lebron.
I think there would be a lot of good players that would want to play with Lillard. Plus, Portland is a bad ass city. Granted, I think players would choose bigger markets, but not all big market teams will have cap flexibility. The Lakers will be big players this year and next, so they will definitely load up…but then after that, most of the big cities will be strapped.
Well, I had the argument the same argument that Portland would not want Ariza because of his age and his contract. I got flamed for it.
