Philly did the right thing. Noel may or may not work out, but this is the right risk to take given their specific situation. All that Holiday could do for that team was to keep it in the 30-35ish win territory and ending up with a 8th-12th pick with very little chance of actually getting into the top 3. Worse yet, they don't actually have the kind of talent and trade assets that Morey had during the last few years to at least make a possible (though unlikely) run at trading for a star. The Sixers didn't crack .500 like the Rockets did, and they gave up a bunch of trade assets (not only a somewhat desirable guy like Iguodala but also young guys like Vucevic and Harkless) for Andrew Bynum.
if its anthony davis, then yeah its a good trade for the sixers. but a dude who never stepped a foot in the nba, coming out of ACL injury. now this is either a fair trade or sixers was robbed a star, but at least sixers will get another first round.
am i the only one here who thinks its a win win situation. The sixers won by getting a young big prospect on noels ( i think he would be kinda like de andre jordan) and they are a worst team without jrue so they got a better chance for next draft. Also they added another first rounder for next year. The pellicans on the other side get a young with still upside all star pg ( eastern all star, but still good talent), to add to their already good core of Gordon, davis and vazquez. Now they have a 3 guard deep rotation wich is very good. They need a guy like asik so davis can play PF. Noel wouldnt have helped them much, he has the same frame and davis, and u need someone bulkier to play center on the nba.
Sixers made a fantastic trade into the Wiggins lottery. They might as well bench Noel the whole season so he is 100%... TANK.
I see it as a win win. Philly screwed up by giving up all there assets for bynum. Philly gets a PF albeit hes not that powerful so I should say they get a talented forward and a 6'6 PG. They wont win more than 25 games and be in contention for either randle/parker/wiggins. N.O gets a great PG that can compete with anybody in the league. He learned how to carry a team last year, which should translate well to that young team with more talent around him. Monty is a great coach and I just see this team competing for a playoff spot if healthy.
Jrue Holiday was never that good either way even if he stayed healthy. It was a robbery of a trade when the Sixers made it then and it's still one today.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_NBA_draft#endnote_NoteC3 The reason why the Rockets were able to re-acquire the draft right to Parson for cash is because the Rockets discovered that the extent of Flynn's hip injury was worse than MIN disclosed. The Rockets threatened to do something about it, and MIN agree to settle by doing the cash-for-38th pick swap. Not an actual fine, and this happened before the trade was "official" (because there hadn't been time to have everyone take physicals yet) but the principle remains that there are certain duties to disclose health information on players that you trade to another team.
Seems a little shady. Sort of like when Houston leaked that Landry was injured when there was no evidence of it in order to scare away other teams from offering him a contract. Seems like Belichick tactics.
I'm sure it's one of those things all teams do. Wouldn't be surprised if it was made public because the NBA doesn't like how the 76ers have openly tanked for the past few years.
