Actually could mean the exact opposite. "Nothing big", meaning "not a big". I still contend that Lowry could make a ton of sense. You know there would be mutual interests there between Houston and Lowry, and we've got some really interesting pieces for them. Papa + Prig + Capela + TJones + 2016 1st + Dorsey for Lowry
I would think Ariza is necessary for any trade involving either Love or Aldridge. Both Cleveland and Portland could use him. And, unfortunately, that 8 million dollar salary is about half the salary for either incoming player. It would have had to be a pretty good deal to risk screwing with that.
I do not agree that Portland could use him. If LMA does leave they will be rebuild mode and Ariza's contract will bring them down.
Unless their owner is like Les and wants to stay competitive. Not advocating anything, but Ariza and one of our power forwards (I guess they'd ask for DMo, although Morey'd insist on Portland native Tjones) and Papa/Prigioni expiring(s).... Still, wish we knew what the Ariza offer was.
I would like to know what the Ariza offer was too. I guess I can't speak for the Portland management maybe they would take Ariza in a LMA deal.
There is still a cyberx thread. Clutch just locked for the draft because people were posting garbage in it.
In that situation with that team, he absolutely is a max player. He's vital to everything they do. Someone might offer him the max to pull him away, and it would likely flop, but that alone drives the price up. There's no real definition of a max player. For example, I don't think Bosh was worth the max at his age to a team like Miami, but had the Rockets gotten him for the max, he would be worthy of it as the last piece of a championship squad. A championship is priceless. If you've got a guy - like Green - that's a part of that, you pay whatever it takes to make a run at another one.
Omg! Open the cyber thread! Cybers posts get burried here and noone sees them! Come on plz. Was it detroit cyber? Thats the first team that i thought off that would want to get ariza. Miami with the financial situation wouldnt want to add another contract and cjarlotte added batum plus turned down ainge. Indy would value their rookie reolacement of hibbert . At least can u tell us if the offer was for a pick or a player? Was it bledsoe for ariza+ 18?
Detroit was my first thought as well. We know we wouldn't have been able to compete with Boston at #9 - CLT apparently REALLY wanted Kaminsky - but I bet Ariza + DMo + #18 for #8 is a conversation starter, especially if Detroit is willing to add Jennings to the mix (maybe that's where conversations ended). Personally, Winslow is the only dude I'd have been OK with dealing Ariza for. I think the guys going to be a beast and could contribute immediately. But we certainly need to capitalize on the next 1-3 years of Dwight's prime, and Winslow would have set us back a bit.
If it was detroit as i strongly like you suspect they wouldnt ask dmo as well because in that case morrey wouldnt even consider it. And cyber said it came really close. It would have been ariza +jones for jennings + 8. If svg suggested this it means he thinks jennings is probably done or it will take him many months to try to play again. Its not a bad deal for detroit. Drop out of the draft and add a wing in a good contract to compete now plus jones that can fit very well next to drummond. We do know that ainge offered that package of picks to teams 4-9. So svg turned him also down. He doesnt value picks but players that are ready to contribute. And now right after the draft there is the leak that detroit is going after harris. So it fits. Imo.
I would think Ariza would be close to untouchable for political reasons. Dude comes here as a free agent on a good contract, has a great year, and then we trade him after only one year for the second time?
It was totally reasonable for Morey to have discussions about Ariza and then not trade him during the draft. Morey should absolutely explore the market on Ariza given that his salary is going to be a critical piece of either trading (likely via sign-and-trade) for a big $ player or creating cap room to sign a big $ player. Morey needs to find out who is interested in Ariza and what assets he can get back for Ariza when a trade needs to be made. However, unless the asset that Morey was to receive in return for Ariza is absolutely of higher value than Ariza is, there was little reason to pull the trigger on draft day. As long as most of the good trade options are still going to be open past July 1st, there's no need to commit to letting Ariza go prematurely.
I really hope Clutch opens the Cyberx thread. It's something I personally look forward to every time I open up my laptop..
Just because Ariza was discussed doesn't mean Morey was the initiator of the trade discussions. If a team calls and offers something you have interest in, you are going to at least listen.
enough with the draft..lets fast forward next week..who's door would be DM and co. be knocking first on the midnight of July 1? any list?
My guess will be LMA, Love, and then some role players to fill the bench. I hope Morey can upgrade the roster a little bit.
