Good for Singleton, hope his talent translates.

GREAT NEWS! I wasn't expecting this to happen until after our series with the Royals was completed, but this is a pleasant surprise. Kills two birds with one stone. Now we can get some real alternatives to Carter at 1B, AND we don't have to live through another Chad Qualls Experience.

Much easier to get PT for the bench than it is for the guy at the end of the bullpen.

Unless your team sucks, then he can pitch all the time.

Really hope Singleton puts it together in the Show this time.

We just got better from this transaction on both ends.

They were actually carrying an extra pitcher and a little thin on the bench.

However, they now have 3 guys that can only DH/1B, so there's that. Plus Tucker, who can only play LF/DH, Santana who's a LF/RF/DH, and Rasmus LF/CF/DH.

I really like their options on a game-to-game basis. Ready for Lowrie to get back so they have a similar option in the IF other than Marwin.

That's why they pay Luhnow & Hinch the big bucks.

Hopefully Singleton does better this time. Good to see him get the call though

I for one, am about done with the Carter waiting game. Here's to hoping Singleton can earn the position.

Have to wonder if something is in the works to move Carter.

Also, to be fair, I wouldn't say Gattis could play 1B. If he has a glove, it should be burned. He can always borrow Conger's if he's forced to play C.

Oh that's more than fair. I'd imagine he's the designated "if-everything-else-goes-to-hell" option at 1B/LF/3B/C.

One low-level arm who could be worth monitoring this year: Salvador MontaƱo. This lefty was a 19/20 year-old who made his debut in the DSL last year, so he was a bit on the older side. However, he turned a few heads within the organization as he was 2nd in the entire league with 87 strikeouts. He's on the mound tonight for Greeneville.

Brandon Culbreth, who was the Astros' 8th-round pick in 2011, made his first appearance in a game since August 28, 2013 and threw a scoreless 6th for Greeneville.

Also making his debut tonight with Quad Cities was Michael Freeman. The 7th-rounder from Oklahoma State walked 1 in a scoreless 6th.

Jamie Ritchie is an OB machine. One single and two walks tonight.

Brett Phillips' first AA hit is a 2-run triple in the 5th. He wound up scoring on a wild pitch.
