How ****ing difficult is it for you to see that "touching your church" is in violation of the First Amendment in the same way that gay marriage bans were in violation of the 14th?

There is a separation of church and state in this country. Full stop. The state now recognizes gay marriage. The church is free to not.

Should atheists not be allowed to marry, Commodore? A church shouldn't recognize their marriage in the same way they won't recognize gay marriage. Yet, where have the lawsuits from the angry hordes of nonbelievers been all these years?

The victim complex among people who have been the ones discriminating for so long is so gross when their bigotry is no longer permissible by law.

People should be allowed by law to marry whomever they want.

Churches should be allowed to do the same, and the government shouldn't be able to intervene with those churches to force them to do anything.

To me, this decision is a win regardless of political affiliation. I know several gay, Catholic, Republicans who will be fine going to the JOP to get married because they understand that their church won't do it....and they respect that.

 

Now they can see how much marriage sucks as well.

The best recourse states have is to consider dissolving the public institution of marriage entirely as a way to combat this imposed definition.
