Marwin could probably play RF. But no way we would go down to 3 OF.

Why the hell would we go to 3 OF??

I'm disappointed in myself for entering into this conversation, it's rediculously stupid

Kyle Tucker just got his first career extra-base hit (a double) for the GCL team.

    As ridiculous as misspelling ridiculously?

My point is Singleton needs another change at the big league level. Send down our 13th pitcher if you don't feel comfortable with Marwin/Gattis/Carter serving as your 4th outfielder.

I disagree with his notion that Mark was promoted to AAA despite struggling -- it completely ignores the dominant month he had in June, which was the main reason for his promotion. He's picking out the negatives of the early season while ignoring how much he's improved over the last month. I don't know how to find how he fared vs. lefties in June, but I would wager they weren't "feasting" on him during that month.

Basically, my issue is with him taking shots at Appel with a limited snapshot that only accounts for his failures and not the recent success he's had. "The Astros could use a strong July from him," to me, further tries to avoid the point that he had a strong June.

I don't even like Appel, never have -- I just like fairness in reporting.

Would it have been better for him to write "...despite Chris Devenski having a far more consistent and dominant start to the season..."

I love when people come back with snark when they don't have a good response.

I stand by my original response in that I agree with Law that Appel has had a sluggish start to the season, his last 20 innings notwithstanding.

Law does not have anything against the Astros. He has posted positive things and he tends to be correct more often than other baseball writers.

Buxton has been terrible in his limited sample.

I don't want to interject here, but I think we also should keep in mind that Luhnow has previously stated that they evaluate the prospects on completely different stats and metrics than we even have access too (I think they are proprietary ones that they developed, so if we really want to know, we should ask the Cardinals!). I need to remind myself this all the time, but we can't just say that Prospect A's ERA is ____, so he is ready for a promotion. Same thing with looking at a hitter and his batting average, or his HR total. As casual fans, that's all we can go by, and I get that, but at the same time, a high ERA might not worry our front office as it does us, or conversely, a low ERA might not impress them as much either. Not sure if this was the best place to put it, but this thought randomly hit me while I was driving home last night (I know I have problems), so I thought it would be a good reminder to all of us fans here.

The statistics that the Astros rely on are not entirely different. If a pitcher is giving up hits, walks and runs... then he is not magically going to look good in advanced top secret statistics. The advanced statistics in large part explain WHY what is happening on the field is happening. We saw it with McHugh, they noted that in a sea of mediocrity he has something very special, and if he maximized his strengths, his production could improve... and overall it has.

    Oooooohhhh, I like this.

Been wondering if Qualls had issues, his sinker hasn't sunk in a month. He's had good action on his slider, but fastballs have been tee-ed off.
