Other than the silly and tired jab regarding Bryant, that's pretty fair. I didn't know about his modified delivery out of the stretch. Appel's pitched quite well his last 6 or so starts, I'm really curious how he does in AAA. I have no idea how he would fare, or even if the Stros would consider, pitching out of the bullpen in August/September. Btw, Law had Appel ranked #1 in 2012, with Buxton 2 and Correa 3. In '13 he had Appel/Gray/Bryant 1-3.
Hurt flexibility? Considering the Astros would only have 3 OFs, I think hurting flexibility would be an understatement.
Keith Law doesn't hate the Astros. He was offered a high ranking position within the Astros organization and views them as very progressive and good at developing players.
Mark Appel is about to turn 24 years old. He has a career minor league era of nearly 5.50 His era this season is 4.29 We can say "Look at June!" 23.1 innings 6 earned runs ...... but we also have to look at May 18.1 innings 18 earned runs......... Sample size matters ALOT... I think the raw stuff is there for Mark to be a mainstay in the rotation, but I am not going to assume that May OR June defines what he is.... which right now is a 24 year old minor league pitcher with an era over 4.
Using Carter or Gattis as an emergency left fielder is going to hamstring us from winning the division? Good to know.
