Why the rubio hate, I haven't payed a lot of attention to him but wasn't he suppose to be all star caliber point guard when he was drafted in 09?

    YOLO, you simply don't understand.

You don't trade for Dwight Howard and tell him to spot up in the corner and shoot the 3.

You don't trade for Isaiah Thomas and make him your post-up option.

You don't trade for Kevin Martin so he can be your defensive stopper.

You don't trade for Brook Lopez so he can run the floor for you in transition.

You don't trade for Chuck Hayes to shoot free throws for you down the stretch.

You don't trade for Kendrick Perkins so he can be your playmaker.

You don't trade for Tony Parker so he can help you rebound.

You don't trade for Tony Allen to be your volume alpha-dog scorer.

    =========================================

    That should be enough.

    Let the shooters shoot.

    Let the defenders defend.

    Let the finishers finish.

    Let the post-uppers post up.

    Let the rebounders rebound.

Let the athletes run and jump.

And for goodness sake, let Rubio make plays.

He's one of the worst at finishing at the rim in the league even though yeah in a way he's pretty good at beating his man. The only problem is the way teams back off of him. It makes him a jump shooter so he can't get in the paint or break down his man. He's never going to be able to truly beat his man until teams defend his jump shot. In the P&R, he's a pretty decent facilitator though. Always seems to make the right pass even though, again, they aren't guarding his jump shot so they will back off and stay with the roller.

I believe at one time Rondo could actually finish at the rim but I'd have to look at that. Rondo then became in love with patting his assist stats and would pass up wide open layups frequently for assists.

Rubio actually tries to finish at the rim quite often and is quite bad at it.

Rubio's strength is pushing the ball in transition, and moving the ball. He is a smart basketball player, and has times where he is Jason Kiddesque, but the Jason Kidd that couldn't shoot back in the day was playing in a different NBA. Its just too hard to play against good NBA defenses when you have such a whopping hole in your game.

Add to the fact that the guy has never stayed healthy and here you go.

Rubio's shot chart from awhile back:

So we're interested in Vasquez, Llull, Scola, and Rubio.

    Do I sense a trend?

Just wanted to throw my opinion out there regarding Rubio. If... We are able to snag either LA or Love a move to bring in a player like Rubio is an excellent move. He's a pass first PG. What more could you want with superstars that demand the ball. He could be exactly what Rondo was to Boston during their run minus the defense obviously. He excels at finding the open man. Look at what he was surrounded with in Min. He could come to Houston where he is surrounded by shooters and big men that can easily catch the lob. We can't have 5 superstars starting every night. He would be a clear upgrade over any PG currently on the roster. Just my opinion.

I'm looking forward to tonight. Let's go Rockets!!!

yeah they both came to play 20 mins a game in bench roles. when did smith/brewer go 5/5 from 3? don't over exaggerate just because you're trying to make a point. they're ability to shoot the 3 still remains the same. They played better here but they didn't get better as players individually.

of course you can judge Rubio as a player. It's not about who he plays with. You don't just dramatically get better because you play with better players. he's not going to go from 25% 3 pt shooter to 35% just because harden is next to him. that doesn't happen

Talking two 'evils': RR1 or RR2

At least with RR, you aren't paying him $13M or giving up assets. :p

    Don't want either.

Setting aside any bias over the person, chemistry concerns or any culpability due to the (now providential) Dallas-playoffs-failure.

Is not Rondo near the same player on the court as Rubio? Isn't he much cheaper and even friends (ie. chemistry) with Dwight and Josh? Defense, court awareness, *passes leading to points* (not just assists)... both of these guys, I would presume are off of the statistical charts with their vision and awareness.

There has been rumor of Morey being interested in both the last couple years. Of course, you never know if it is genuine or feign, maybe just to jack-up the market. That is part of his genius. For arguments sake, if genuine, Morey must disagree with everyone thinking that a *non-shooter* can handle a heavy load of our point guard duties.

(Neither here nor there, but Yes, I want Rondo as our PG. in 12 year old select baseball - I want the 12 year old kid that doesn't pee himself when the other team's 6'1" stud ace takes the bump. I want "my" players to look at him, stand in, and if given the chance - go right through the box - back at him. Rondo has that! I'm not so sure of Rubio.)

Rest assured, this is not a commercial for Rondo - he has flaws - obvious flaws - one of which however is NOT this contract that we might get him due to said failed-Dallas experiment. I am even assuming (ass-u-me) that he might have a desire to play on this team, a destination team, with his friends (with Aldridge).

I feel like one of the Bobs, "For my money, I don't know if it gets any better than when he (Bolton) sings "When a Man Loves a Woman."

using most of you all's rationale about Ricky Rubio we should trade Harden. Because Harden simply cannot defend. He's supposedly worked on it. (yeah right) He even got a lot of steals this year. (But that was because of Ariza and Harden cheating and losing his man over and over at the rim, etc. etc. etc.)

So we oughta get rid of him. HE SUX. He doesn't defend!!!!!

And some of you actually believe that and would trade Harden because he doesn't defend.

That's the same thing your'e doing when you discount him to trash because "he can't shoot". You're totally ignoring the parts of his game that are top-notch, that account for the bulk of his productivity. You gotta look beyond a stat sheet for that.

Papa and Prigs are non guaranteed, Jones is on a rookie contract.

The ONLY moves we'd have to make if we wanted to clear cap, would be to trade Ariza, Dorsey and the 18th pick, everything else is in place. We could just draft and stash a euro with the 18th though and not have to trade it. The 32nd won't be a problem.

    Cut: Papa, Prigs

Renounce: Terry, Brewer, Smith, Bev, McDaniels

Trade (for no salary in return): Ariza, Dorsey, 18th pick(or draft&stash)

Boom, we have 19 million in cap space.

    Roster

    PG: Johnson
    SG: Harden
    SF:
    PF: Motiejunas / Jones
    C: Howard / Capela

+ 32nd pick, 19 million in cap space

It would also be a given I believe that Scola and Terry will sign for vet min (after signing any big free agent).

No Rondo is not friends with James and Dwight.

If you just look at their on-court games and you compare 2011 Rondo to 2015 Rubio, you're pretty close. Except for demeanor and all the locker room stuff and all the controlling stuff. And except for the ability to knock down free throws. Rubio has always had a free throw stroke. Rondo never has. Rubio doesn't have to run and hide in clutch time.

Oh, and it's been about 3 years since Rondo played defense. He's still probably capable. But you won't see Rondo play defense until and unless he gets in the playoffs on a team that he wants to play for. Rubio will give you everything he has on a nightly basis.
