Not really, but it's a great springboard for the East Coast.

Drive south to DC/Baltimore, or north to NYC.

    National Constitution Center
    Betsy Ross House
    Franklin Institute Science Museum
    Rodin Museum
    Eastern State Penitentiary

History is always an interest but Im not really a sight seer. Of course Id visit the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall but Im really wanting to know how the feel of the city is. Is it easy to get around, which parts to avoid and which parts to go have a beer and relax just to recharge.

Philly's not too interesting, but like s land balla said, it's good if you want to visit the rest of the northeast because the whole region is packed near each other You'd be at a good midpoint from DC and New York- both of which have more to offer to tourists than Philly.

Honestly, the main draw is historical sites...one of the best in the country if you're into history. But it's really just one small section of town. Some of the streets and squares in the old town can be pretty charming.

If not that into history though, then I'm not sure if it really has all that much to offer.

You can get a cheesesteak at Pat's or Jim's or Gino's, but most people have too-high expectations and leave underwhelmed.

I guess "south street" is the cool area, but it's really not all that special. Other than cheesesteaks I've never really gotten a clear picture of any "must eat" places for tourists.

Not sure if you're into baseball but Citizens Bank Park is alright. Only thing that sucks is their sports complexes are isolated on the outskirts of downtown and surrounded by a forest of parking lots.

Reading Terminal Market is a pretty cool place to walk through and get some snacks, ice cream, etc.

I believe the subway should hit most places a tourist would want to go, but it's a little ratty (literally).

The Barnes Collection is there. I am planning on checking that out at some point. It's one of the greatest collections of art in the world. The entire collection was stolen by the city of Philadelphia, by the way. It's an interesting story. It's all played out in a documentary called the Art of the Steal.

I think Rocky captures the city perfectly. It's like that. It's real. The historic section and museums are great and make it worth the visit. As for the city itself I don't think I would visit without the tourist destinations unless you want that dank street atmosphere.

The Philly zoo is the first zoo in the US I think and it was surprisingly very good. The Philly art museum is also top notch and up there with the Met in NYC (but not as good obviously but you wouldn't expect such a nice museum in Philly).

For eats, Redding Terminal Market is a required visit on Saturdays.

Already been. Trying to avoid going to west coast again. Probably going to Philly > Chicago> Denver, then coming back. Taking advantage of the cheap flights. Wanted to get Charlotte in there, but wasnt offered as a connector.

I stayed a weekend and I loved it.

The food is incredible and there's enough of the town to see for a Westerner/Southerner
