I'm going to take this book in small sections.

They aren't entirely to blame, but they certainly are responsible for a lot of it.

I'm 100% with you on that.

I honestly don't know much about that group, but just for the sake of conversation, we'll say that they are a racist group....not really going out on a limb there most likely.

There are tons of racist groups all over the spectrum, they only really have power when the public is polarized....when they are ripe to be radicalized. You will always have groups from the Klan to the Black Panthers who are seeking to radicalize people to follow their cause...when people are united those groups have a really hard time.

The best propaganda has roots in truth. On one side, you'll have people selling numbers about black people killed by police officers in an attempt to radicalize....on the other you'll have people selling numbers about black on white crime in an attempt to radicalize.

Again, those groups generally don't do very well without a polarized public. A thoughtless statement by the president along with irresponsible media coverage is an extremist's best friend.

If a black person gets killed while attacking a cop you blame the person for attacking the cop. If the media's coverage leads to riots, you blame the media for the riots along with the groups on the ground that incited the riot.

In this case, you blame the guy that did it, the people that created the atmosphere for his radicalization (polarizing politicians/irresponsible media), and the radical groups that he followed (CCC, if applicable). There's plenty of blame to go around....but only the kid should be getting the death penalty so he's getting the brunt of the blame.

I think both have their share of responsibility for polarizing comments/content though I'm much more aware of one than the other. If the CCC is essentially the KKK like some are saying then absolutely they deserve blame for helping radicalize the stupid kid.

(I since looked up the CCC and it is absolutely a hate group)

The real issue here is that those groups are gaining power due to the media and politicians selling divisiveness. We currently have the most divisive presidents in my lifetime. We've had a lot of bad presidents in that time (like the last one), but never one that so polarizes the public with his actions and words. Even if you agree politically with the president, you have to be able to see that....even if you choose to blame it on others.

Kind of hard to do with the right to free speech though. Do you suspend that in order to crack down on those groups? Do you only go after the white racist groups or do you go after all of them? How far do you take it? Does Al Sharpton's National Action Network count as a hate group? To many it does.

I think the best way to deal with those groups is to take away their power by uniting Americans rather than continuing a policy of divisiveness that had led to angry mobs destroying towns and terrorists shooting up churches.

Well I guess EVERY father in your men's group feel a connection to the attacker in that case merely because of the color of his skin.....more power to you guys I guess. No chance do you feel the same way if the guy who attacked Zimmerman was any other race.

I think you and your men's group are a good example of the divisiveness that has gripped the country in the last several years. We can hope that your "racially aware" group doesn't radicalize and do anything violent, you guys seem to share far too much in common with Dylann Roof for my taste.

The guy blamed the Trayvon Martin case for the shooting - at least according to his manifesto. I am reminded of my teachings that "the only thing we should take seriously is our work, never ourselves". Blaming the media is weak because the real issue is parental advisement. There is a reason this guy got caught up in the supermarket-tabloid equivalent Travyon Martin case - bad parenting. It is just taboo to blame parents for their child's actions when they hit 18. It's why so many people are overweight and obese (parenting).

For perspective, here is who posted in the Trayvon Martin thread:

The fact that you see it that way just proves my point.

The City of Charleston seems to be heading in this direction. They SEEM to be uniting instead of dividing and that is the only way to steal power from the racists.

Some of you should watch how you speak around your young children and grand kids. Because if you don't, they'll one day have to bring Paw-Paw's name up when they describe to their children what racism is.

History will not look back kindly upon you.

Agreed, the best way to combat them is by putting and end to this "Us vs. them" mentality that has been pushed so much the last several years.

Which in some ways is still "Us vs. them", but it has the "us" meaning Americans or people in general and the "them" is those who would seek to divide "us".

We can no longer tolerate those who see "us" as one racial group or a collection of racial groups and the "them" as one racial group or collection of racial groups.

The solution to all problems: pretend there is no problem.

love it. Everything is so much simpler now.

Every problem is made when we think about them. Let's stop thinking about problems!

That is combating the problem though, the problem being the divisiveness of racists. Of course, I can see how those who are part of that problem would dislike that.

    blame Obama at its peak

racist mass-murderer creates manifesto that says, among other things, "I wish with a passion that n-words were treated terribly throughout history by Whites, that every White person had an ancestor who owned slaves, that segregation was an evil an oppressive institution, and so on."

    Obama created him

What we can no longer tolerate is the ignorance, apathy, dismissal, and an unwillingness to acknowledge the commonplace existence of racism in this country.

Oh, I never knew the problem with centuries of massive racial discrimination that continues and compounds to this day were people aiming to think about that topic.

Let's just--let's just stop thinking. There are no problems if there is no thinking. Let's extend that to our solution as well. Look, if everybody would just accept the fact that there ARE no problems we wouldn't HAVE problems.

oh I guess I'm being divisive now. You're not being divisive putting people into group problem and group solution though, the solution after all being that everybody in the world abandon critical thinking and reasoning. swell.

In Texas we have an attraction called "Six Flags Over Texas" which features the history of the six flags that have flown over the state...

    Spain
    France
    Mexico
    Republic of Texas
    United States of America
    Confederate States of America

So are we going to have to remove the Confederate flag? How about the flag of Spain since at one point Spain issued a proclamation that they had the monopoly on slave trading and they would attack any foreign ship that tried to transport slaves. How about the American flag since under Roosevelt we rounded up Americans of Japanese, German, Italian and Inuit races and put them in detainment camps during World War II.

So is taking down a flag in South Carolina going to stop killing from taking place? If so then lets take down all the flags of any type in Detroit and Chicago since scores of people are murdered there every day but Blacks turn a blind eye since it's Blacks killing Blacks. There can be a dozen witness to a shooting but they will all tell the cops they didn't see a thing even if it was their son or daughter that was gunned down for no reason.
