He should go on Shark Tank and reject the imminent bad offers.

That would be awesome. It would be even more awesome if he rejected everybody except puban and had him offer at the end, only to moon him as a rejection with a pair of Rockets underwear.

Superglue's worked for the past 20 years, but this sounds better.

    Come on man...

I applaud his accomplishment, but the kid needs to learn something about making unsubstantiated claims or at least watch his words

Hasn't he done extensive testing, though, to back up his claims? Vets are already ordering the product, so I'm sure what the gel can do, is scientifically proven.

It doesn't heal the wound instantly. It provides a scaffold that will allow the body to heal (just think of instant-stitches like Super Glue). The body is still going to take time to form the skin in the wound area. That won't happen instantly, or even close to it.

"... mesh acts as a scaffold to help the body produce fibrin at the wound's surface."

The body doesn't just **** fibrin out. This is basically a super glue and Neosporin alternative on steroids.

The part that made me raise the eyebrow is that it would be used internally
Was trying to figure how it would not glue one organ to another in an . .non functional way or something.
An not exactly sure this is something you want floating through your veins . . .
going to all organs and the head

So you agree that the phrase he used "permanently heal the wound within minutes" is an infomercial stretching of the truth. That seems to be all shastarocket meant.

So if you're missing s chunk of flesh, you'd just apply a fist full of the cream on the exposed muscles right there? It'll just be there permanently, turning you into a patchwork Frankeinstein monster?

It's most likely absorbable by the body like absorbable stitches which are also made of polymers that the body can break down.

I feel like it was incredibly dishonest for him to make that statement.

In addition, for him to claim that the gel "forms a clot" is a gross misrepresentation of the truth. A clot is the product of incredibly complex biological mechanisms whereas what he probably meant to say was that the gel achieves/promotes hemostasis. In fact there are numerous products already on the market that can achieve hemostasis in a surgical and ER setting.

    -------------

Here is a video that demonstrates the product in action

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dJLxRcU9No4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

In all honesty it feels like this is a good start but the idea is half-baked. The live demonstration (a liver doesn't bleed like that!) and "efficacy testing" were comical to say the least. He seems to have a good marketing team, solid funding and is approaching this from a business as opposed to a scientific perspective.

Of course, I don't want to judge this kid based on a couple of "gotcha" statements and his achievement definitely deserves praise. I believe this stuff has some utility in a life-threatening emergency setting where proper medical care is out of reach, but nothing in an OR or ER because there are simply better options. If that is all it does, the kid has accomplished a lot.
