"Felicia Sanders, who survived the attack with her granddaughter by reportedly playing dead – she is a relative of victim Tywanza Sanders – said, 'we welcomed you Wednesday night in our bible study with open arms.'
'Every fiber in my body hurts,' she said. "God have mercy on you.'"

'Dylann Storm Roof, who has confessed to killing six women and three men at Charleston's Mother Emanuel AME Church, "almost didn't go through with it because everyone was so nice to him...'"

I responded to this earlier. Considering what his crime was, he may not be accepted by those other racists.

I keep seeing this. He will be in solitary for the rest of his life. He will quickly grow even more crazy and have a miserable tortured existence. He will not once be beat up or raped by any other prisoner.

exactly that's my point! they welcomed him into the church. it was never about race... this is not a black church.. this is a church that happens to have black members! You can go to any church in Houston that has black members and you will be welcomed as family

truly sad that racism is alive and well.

    Sad

Why do you think that is? Believe it or not, there is a lot of history that precedes your birth and self-righteous ideas of race in America.

They're not segregated by race, but by neighborhood. In an all black neighborhood, yes the churches will be mostly black - but only because thats who lives around that church. But like someone else said, they would welcome you with open arms no matter what your race.

for the past few weeks we've gone to a church that had a black Pastor and was about 65% black and 35% white and EVERYBODY was extremely welcoming to us (a white family). We even had a lady show up at our door to drop off a welcoming gift. We'd keep going there but I've just got too many major theological differences with that church.

The church we attended for years before that was about 60% white and 25% black and everyone there was also extremely welcoming as well.

As a matter of fact just a few months ago I pulled up and saw a black male, white male, white female and a Persian male all walking together across the parking lot of the church and I thought about how amazing it was that churches can bring all sorts of different people together.

Exactly. High profile criminals like this are sequestered from the general population. Even if he was entered into the gen pop, the white supremacists would love this guy. His crime is not too heinous for their tastes as some here seem to think.

I think you took what I said the wrong way. I grew up in a black church in 5th Ward we occasionally had white people visit and a couple even joined, but on the whole most churches I've gone to are predominantly one race. Everyone has different worship styles.

Never really thought of it that way but I guess you're right. I currently go to an almost evenly mixed church ( black/ white/ Hispanic / Asian) but like I said that seems to be hard to find.

correct. going to a church with predominantly the same race is not about racism...it's because cultures have different worship styles. so having people with the same expectation makes having services easier and enjoyable.

there's korean churches, indian churches, black churches..watever.

Just because your greeted with open arms doesn't mean it's still not a black church.

I can't believe someone is making the "black church is just church, media wouldn't call it a white church" argument.

Here is a great article on this issue today that also touches on the history of the black churches in America.

Didn't know how racist Dallas was; I have been living here for 20 years at least. I seen a couple of instances but I guess I need to get out more.
