Something about seeing a player get mobbed at home plate after getting balked home doesn't quite make sense.

Makes as much sense as any other non-homer time. He still got on base.

Collin McHugh was excellent all of last year, and through 6 starts this year. That cannot be ignored while discussing him. Having said that, over his last 8 he has been terrible. He had 2 abysmal performances, and in between those he had 5 starts where he posted a sub par ERA of 4.36. He has been mediocre to terrible.

Now given his past results, and the fact that we really have no palatable alternatives, removing him from the rotation right now simply isn't an option. But if he doesn't regain his form he should be removed eventually, just not now.

Also, the actions of the runner led directly to the balk.

Straily, he has pitched very good lately (except 1 game) at triple a, and he was very good with Oakland. Actually, the best of Feldman vs best of Straily, i take Straily in a heartbeat.

Not sure how much confidence I have in Straily...prior to his last outing, he had two starts in which he gave up 5 runs.

In AAA, hitters are batting over 0.300 against him while he carries a WHIP of almost 1.5.

He's had nice moments in the minors followed with pretty bad performances and had only 4 quality starts in 12 games.

Decent K:BB numbers but still too many hits and runs.

Opposing batters have a .367 BABIP against Straily because they're hitting significantly more line drives off of him than in previous years.

    Behind his 4.25 ERA is a 2.94 FIP and a 3.60 SIERA.

fair assessment. If he's mediocre without the 2 blowups going forward, I'm fine with it, though. Obviously hoping for more, but mediocrity is palatable.

agreed. The guy has been way too up-and-down in AAA. Especially from an older guy with ML experience, etc. Inconsistency at that level doesn't inspire something better than McHugh by any stretch

Anyone advocating trading Springer is moronic. And I don't think there's a push for them to trade Altuve, either - but some of us do think (perhaps incorrectly) that he might not fit into this regime's long-term plans, for a variety of reasons.

I'm quickly selling myself on the idea that Altuve might be at the center of their push for a big-time arm.

Unlikely they trade the batting champion version of Altuve... And unlikely he's the viable center of a trade piece if he's really the regressing/swing at everything/no power player everybody claims he really is.
