How much can we offer to hit only the 1 year 1st and 2nd round penalty? Could make a case for that if he's guaranteed top 5 talent in 2 years.

    0 to 5%: 75% tax
    5 to 10%: 75% tax and 1st round pick
    10 to 15%: 100% tax and 1st and 2nd round picks
15% and above: 100% tax and 1st round picks for the next 2 years

So we can go up to 15% which is $2,593,380.

    I doubt we do it

Would like to have him, but a huge NO to forfeiting first round picks

Let's not forget, not having/signing draft picks was a pretty big part of getting is into the awful situation we were in in the first place

Just keep adding talent to the system like we have

We'll just use the 5% overage and hopefully that will be enough to snag one of the three.

    Speaking hypothetically, if he's definitely a top 5 pick in 2017, we'd technically be trading a (likely) late 1st and 2nd rounder for a top 5 1st rounder. That's a good trade.

This is disappointing. Was expecting more.

Of a discount. Senior sign without much leverage, albeit a really good college player.

He signed for close to half his slot, $76,000 isn't something to sneeze at. I don't think the Astros are going to have the $1,500,000 available to sign players that fell. Bregman will be north of $5,000,000.

Alex Bregman just made a nice play ranging to his left.

Assume Bregman signs for $5.5MM and Daz wants $4MM. They will use $500,000 (of the $915,000) they saved from the rest of the bonus pool plus the $1.9MM they saved from Bregman to pay Daz. Then they will still have $415,000 plus the $800,000 in overage money to go after one of Sandoval (most likely), Sands, or Baker (for a $1.2MM bonus).

I used all approximations for the sake of the argument... just wanted to point out that it can be done.

Amazing how similar this play was to Correa's in his debut.

I feel like there may have been some signability issues with Rodgers. At the very least, I think Rodgers would've cost more and may prevent us from drafting Cameron at 37. The Astros may or may not like Bregman more, but the consensus I think had Rodgers in a vacuum the more likely 2nd pick.

But overall this draft at the top is supposedly very bunched so it's hard to tell. No matter what, getting Cameron really helped this draft really lessened the Aiken/Nix loss from last year.

As of right now, if we give Daz $4M and give everyone else who is left to sign their full slot amount (Bregman, Eshelman, Ferrell, Person), then we will be over by $1.42M which is over the 5% limit.

If we give Bregman $6M and everyone else slot, we will have $3700 left over + $864,460 (5% of our bonus pool) which is $868k

If we give Bregman $6M, Eshelman $1.25M, Ferrell slot, and Person $100k then we will have $1M including the 5%

My hope is that Eshelman will sign for $1M and Bregman will sign for $5.75M which would leave us with $1.5M to throw at Patrick Sandoval (Sands and Baker have reaffirmed their commitments).

As of right now we have saved $915,000. If we give all of that to Daz and go 5% over, then all we need to get him his 4 mil would be $551,940.

We still have to sign Bregman (Slot Value: $7,420,100), Eshelman ($1,325,700), Ferrell ($765,600), and Person ($164,200).

How much do you guys think Bregman gets? If he gets the same amount as Rodgers, 5.5 million, then that leaves $1,368,160. I don't know how much we can safe from the other three guys. At most I think we could manage to sign Sands and Sandoval.
(saw I got beat by rocketpower, oh well)
