I didn't know either initially, but he's the Deputy Managing Editor of Sports and Business.

you may be right, but really what is the different between compensating the Astros for this theft from compensation for a tampering grievance? For instance, this past offseason when the Rays filed a grievance against the Cubs for tampering with their Manager Joe Madden, it was widely speculated that, if MLB found that the Cubs tampered, the Ray would be entitled to compensated may in the form of players, draft picks, or even a top prospect like Jose Baez. See http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/...ay-rays-manager-feel-icky-deal-with-it-103114

There are also precedents from other sports. For instance when the Heat were found to have tampered and "organizational interference" in hiring Pat Riley from the Knicks, the NBA awarded the Knicks a first-round draft choice. See http://articles.chicagotribune.com/...ensation-deals-bill-belichick-veteran-manager

Maybe tampering compensation in the CBA but this isn't?? I don't know, but just as an equitable matter I don't see why teams would be entitled to compensation for tampering with a manager or front office executive, but wouldn't be for IP theft.

Why should Luhnow do the Chron any favors?

Besides, its an ongoing Federal investigation. They're correct in keeping quiet right now.

SI: Astros GM Jeff Luhnow speaks out about hacking scandal

Olney: Substance of Cardinals' alleged transgression doesn't match buzzwords being attached to it

He's apparently talking to SI. Wow; they genuinely dislike the Chronicle writers - that's a major slap in the face, to give an exclusive interview with SI. Note: Mozeliak met with all reporters yesterday.

I don't blame them at all, I'd never let an employee speak one-on-one with Drellich or Ortiz if I was Luhnow.

I don't blame him. The Chron is always quick to throw the Astros under the bus. We need some new blood in there quick. Levine was decent but Smith and Evan D. are just annoying.

On a related note, the St. Louis Post Dispatch has had great coverage of this.

The combo of Smith and Drellich might be the worst of any major newspaper.

Smith was in a league of his own. He may as well have walked in and said "can I do this for a year and then write about the Texans?". Couldn't stand him. If these writers are subjective, fine, go for it. But to just always be crapping on the team that's existence allows you to have a job? Good grief. We do not read as fans to hate our clubs. We read to learn more and gain a better view from people that hopefully have more insight. Sadly, we have not had that for years.

Feigen and Creech are pretty good for the Rockets, I just don't understand what the Chron recruiters have been looking for. Smith and Drellich are both just dreadful.

I should specify that it is for the Astros specifically. Barron has been great as well covering Comcast and just being a wealth of useful information.

When Springer went nuts after one of the games in Chicago last week, Smith out of nowhere tweeted "Stay Classy Springer."

    He really is the worst.

Throw in Ortiz and it's not a "might".

    It's a ****ing embarrassment.

Can you imagine if it were the other way around and the Astros were the ones accused of hacking into the Cards' system? There wouldn't be any of this victim blaming you read in the ESPN comments. None of the "well they should've done more to protect themselves" BS. We'd be tarred-and-feathered in the media and I'm guessing the punishment coming down would be even more severe. But since this is the Astros and they're the Cards, a nice slap on the wrist will do just fine

Why the **** should Astros execs say a word?? They've been dragged in the mud over the last year, in part because of the hackings, so in reality, they have every right to stay quiet and let the truth resonate from the mountain tops. No **** the Cards GM is going to talk.....he's trying to deflect, and save his own ass. It's not a foxhole, it's a Cone of Vindication.

Also, **** the Chronicle for their biased, half-assed reporting. They should be leading the charge of championing the Astros' cause, but obviously they're too busy grinding blunt axes.
