It's a problem if that person is a weaboo. Weaboos are without a doubt some of the most pathetic people I've ever seen in my life. They desire to be Japanese, but end up making complete asses out of themselves and the culture they worship in the progress.

Major has it right. While so much the focus of this has been on race what we need to consider from the the city of Spokane, NAACP and Howard University's standards is that she deliberately misled them. Her employment situation and other things that she may have gained because of her background are suspect if that background wasn't actually true. So whether this was about race, income or life experience if those were important for her gaining her particular position and she misrepresented those factors that is fraud.

This is different than someone wanting to identify with a culture that they weren't born or raised into. This is an example that I gave in the Hangout thread.

I play Irish music, dated Irish women, visited Ireland, and love Irish culture. I haven't had any problem from Irish that on many levels I identify with their culture and many Irish have called me a "Paddy" Ireland grants automatic citizenship to people whose parents were born in Ireland regardless of where they were born. Now I could dye my hair red, speak with a brogue and drink Guiness until my liver was falling out (I do that already ;)) If I get Irish citizenship by claiming that my parents were born in Galway and it comes out that my parents were actually born in China that is fraud. It doesn't matter how Irish I look or act. Ireland is in their rights to strip me of Irish citizenship and ban me from the country.

You ought to be able to be Irish if you choose to. Be what makes you happy.
She's the Caitlyn Jenner of race, she's Transracial, who cares?

I guess reading the articles none of them clearly state that she got ahead by claiming to be black. She never claimed to be African American, only to be "black" which to the point of many - how is that even defined? Did she make up the back-story to get the job? I don't know. If she did get a job based on lying about her race than that's awful...but then again, your race isn't suppose to be a factor in getting any job! You're right, you'd be committing fraud to lie about your parents background to get citizenship, but I don't know if getting a job because someone thinks black is, in fact, it might be exposing the bias of the hiring manager more than anything else. It basically says that if someone was white they may not rise up despite having all the talents to do the job. Just seems a bit odd.

She's not the Jenner of race. Jenner doesn't get a choice of whom she identifies with. She has had to deal with being a woman trapped in a man's body her entire life. Her choice was only to stop hiding it.

Yup, there will be some people who don't get the pain she's had to go through her whole life being a black woman trapped in a white woman's body, but I applaud her for not hiding who she really is. She didn't choose to be a black woman cruelly trapped in a white woman's body and I think we should be celebrating how brave she was to change her appearance to better fit who she thinks she is on the inside.

Once again you are focusing on race while ignoring that she deliberately misled people about her background. Consider if I go interview for a job as a pee wee hockey coach and I tell the employer that my dad played NHL hockey for Quebec Nordiques and I was a high school champion in Saskatoon. But it turns out I only started played hockey in college intramurals and my dad spent most of his life in Singapore and never even ice skated. Now there is no law saying that a pee wee hockey coach has to be Canadian or even played a lot of hockey but clearly if I get hired based upon that background I've clearly misled my employer.

For Dolezel no matter if Howard, Spokane or the NAACP would've given her a scholarship and job position or not if she said from the beginning she was born white still doesn't change that she misled them about her background. Others have noted that the NAACP has white people working for them, Howard has non-African American students and certainly Spokane has non-African American employees so your argument about this being some sort of reverse racism isn't really that much of a counter argument. She still might've gotten to the same positions if she had been honest. Except she created a fictitious back story including a fictitious parent and they hired her believing that fiction. Whether she did it because she thought it might help her get that job or because she honestly has some identity crisis it still is misleading.

    This will end well.

Rachel Dolezal, Who Pretended to Be Black, Is Charged With Welfare Fraud

    ...

From August 2015 until last November, Ms. Dolezal received nearly $8,850 in public assistance from Washington State after she had falsely claimed she had little income and needed financial help, according to court documents. Prosecutors charged Ms. Dolezal, 40, who legally changed her name in 2016 to Nkechi Amare Diallo, with theft by welfare fraud, perjury and falsifying records for public assistance — all felonies.

Here is a thought. Can racism become extinct if we just require everyone to identify as one race?

All non blacks are required to identify as being black (similar to what Shaun King does)

    or

All non whites are required to identify as being white

Can we have racism if we all identify as the same race? Problem solved amirite Liberals?
