We all know he's a joke, but if his "guy" was indeed a baseball guy, would be interesting.

First 2 things are possible. Last thing is impossible. I fully expect a huge fine, suspensions and/or banning of those involved, and the loss of draft picks. But to award them to the Astros? Then you're affecting the other 28 teams by giving the Astros the Cards' picks.

Wow, this is unprecedented. What could the punishment be if they are found guilty I wonder?

I don't get it. The Astros are no longer in the same division let alone the same conference. What competitive advantage was there to be gained from this hack? Spying on your former employee using old passwords that he never changed is not an excuse.

Agreed, and regardless of what the other owners want Crane should be compensated monetarily. If he isn't I would expect a civil suit to be filed shortly thereafter.

The tune of 30 mil should be a starting point. Screw MLB, make our team move and there's a price to pay. Crane doesn't owe Manfred anything and this would be a nice final parting shot to give the Selig regime for stealing the teams history so that Bud's beloved Brewers could remain in the more profitable NL. Payback is the word of the day.

Supposedly no competitive advantage. The proposed motives are either that (a) the employees wanted to know if Luhnow stole trade secrets, aka, took the technology behind the Cardinals' system with him or (b) wanted revenge against him. It's also possible that (c) they wanted to utilize the Astros' scouting resources, and likely had access to how we valued other teams' players and prospects.

    (b) seems like the most plausible explanation because of the leaks last year to Deadspin. The leaks were heavily edited and made to put him in a bad light. Luhnow claimed a lot of the material was fabricated.

Basically it seems like someone was upset with Luhnow for taking too much credit for the Cardinals' success and wanted to throw him under the bus as an idiotic GM. It's still possible the Cardinals used the information but I doubt it, considering how the FBI/NYT has presented the case. If they wanted to gain an advantage from the information they wouldn't have been dumb enough to release it publicly. Clearly someone thought they were screwing Jeff over and will face jail time for being moronic.

IMO--the punishment will be especially harsh because the leak to the media potentially discouraged future trade talks.

To me, the biggest competitive advantage is free scouting, especially from one of the most successful teams in terms of draft scouting in the last few years. The other advantage would theoretically be behind gaining any knowledge of potentially unknown analytics that other teams may not be using.

Maybe a Competitive pick in the 1st rd might be awarded to Houston in 2016 mlb draft...and the 1st rd for the next 2 years might be taken away from the Cards...I honestly would be shock if Houston doesn't.

Doubt Houston gets anything, but expect a vicious punishment if Cards senior management is implicated.

Move the Cards to the AL and the Astros to the NL.

This is the most obvious choice.

A low level probably wouldn't have a access to prior passwords.

Also, I don't care how low level you are, you know hacking into the private server of another teams general manager is a huge deal.

I agree. This, fine them 1 million bucks, and take away their first round draft pick for five years. That's fair.

    FIFY.

Card personnel who broke the law should go to jail, some nice Club Fed somewhere. MLB should also ban the guilty for life.

Not sure how I feel about the FBI getting involved. Didn't the Chinese just do the biggest hack in American history on the US? Shouldn't the FBI's man power be on that? I think I would rather see MLB handle it internally and the FBI to just say 'we got better things to do'. Kind of feels like when the steroid users where put in front on Congress.

This goes beyond simple MLB jurisdiction... federal laws were broken.
