This was an O versus D decision. You have Gentry, who cut his teeth under D'Antoni in Phoenix and JVG, who partnered with Thibs for years to deliver "83-75" slugfest victories.
...but can your coach dunk? <iframe src="https://vine.co/v/eeITbwemXld/embed/simple" width="600" height="600" frameborder="0"></iframe><script src="https://platform.vine.co/static/scripts/embed.js"></script>
Gentry used his left foot off the wall to make sure he got up there to finish the dunk, almost like a "springboard", to use a wrestling term. Not bad though.
...GM Dell Demps was unhappy with former coach Monty Williams, who did an incredible job with that team a year ago. Williams was fired and Demps hired Alvin Gentry as his coach. Sources tell me he spent way too much time this year second guessing his own hire, often in public ways within earshot of players, staff and even opponents. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/the-woj-report--pelican-problems-132654855.html [rQUOTEr]Pelicans GM Dell Demps has expressed reservations on numerous occasions this season about last year’s decision to hire Alvin Gentry as coach, making his doubts known to some of the team’s players and staff, and to opponents as well, sources tell Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical for a video report. It was Demps who originally chose Gentry for the job, as Wojnarowski casts it, though confusion exists over whether Demps or executive vice president of basketball operations Mickey Loomis is in control of the front office, as Zach Lowe of ESPN.com touched on in a trade deadline report. http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2016/03/pelicans-gm-dell-demps-questions-gentry-hiring.html[/rQUOTEr]
