Size isn't the issue, age and decrepitude is. If the playoff series with golden state showed us anything its that we need younger more versatile players not old one dimensional (and in Elton Brands case, no dimensional) players
Me neither. The Rockets had a terrific regular season run because 1. Harden, 2. depth, and 3. chemistry, so I think it's a safe bet that hot heads are not welcome on the roster.
If we trade K.Pap and Jones for Lawson, re-sign Josh and Brew, maybe draft a small forward, then go full boar on Draymond Green in free agency, and match Pat Beverley if he has a reasonable offer we will win at least three championships as long as everyone stays healthy
That is a lot of IFs, but I love your idea of Draymond Green. Probably will get overpaid but We need someone with that type of edge.
Depth is one factor, but 1) depth does not outweigh having elite talent, and 2) the kind of depth that the Rockets had last year can be replenished with some work.
probably? parsons got the max. sf is second only to c in the overpaid dept. it's fantasy to even consider the rockets having a chance at green as a free agent.
Rondo can not make free throw, this team would make a NBA record of missing free throw by having him with Howard, Smith together.
I'm confused... Are you saying that Draymond Green is a SF? He's small for a PF but that's the position he consistently plays. The Warriors put him at C more than SF. You're right, it's ridiculous for any team besides the Warriors to think they have a shot at Green as a free agent.
Green played sf at Michigan state, he's just so damn skilled he can guard three positions efficiently. He's going to get paid and deservedly so. If there was a way we could assure James he would get max when his deal was up so there would be no jealousy, I'd be open to giving Green a chandler parsons type deal, dude can freaking ball
It's not completely ridiculous. If the Warriors can't find a taker for Lee right away, it's worth a shot for another team to try to sign Green and dare Golden State to match with the prospect of 40-50 mil in luxury tax payments looming over them
I don't even want Rondo to play basketball, be it in the NBA, overseas, or a simple pick-up game at your local 24-hour fitness.
Green wouldn't be as effective with the Rockets as he is with GSW, but it's all moot anyway. GSW will match any offer.
The best way for us to leapfrog GSW in the conference is for us to get better, them to get worse, or both. Stealing a quality free agent from them accomplishes both for us all other things being equal. Not saying the cap math works for all other things to actually BE equal, but it is not outlandish to suggest trying.
Overpaying an undersized PF that can't shoot simply to take him away from another team is pretty foolish IMO.
I'd say it approaches "outlandishness". Green is a restricted free agent, and with the cap jumping in 2016, a max deal in 2015 won't really be a max deal in just a year. There is no chance they let him walk. He would have to tell them point blank "I'm signing the qualifying offer and leaving in 2016 free agency" for them to even blink.
just because he's not a shooter doesn't make him that less valuable. someone like rondo is a player that "can't shoot". Green is a shot maker and that's definitely valuable. he's not afraid of taking the shots he knows that needs to be taken and definitely respectable enough for defense's to have to guard him.
