Defensive instincts, arm, and getting his raw power into the game were the knocks on his game.

As far Astros low minors go, it looks game power may no longer be a knock on his game.

Francis Martes just fired a complete game shutout for Quad Cities in game 2 of their doubleheader with Great Lakes. Martes allowed 6 hits and struck out 5.

He was the third player acquired in the Jarred Cosart deal.

Austin Chrismon with seven shutout innings in his Lancaster debut. Another backend of the rotation type with good control and lots of ground balls.

Is Tony Kemp the kind of prospect you put available in a deal for a big name pitcher/bat like a Hamels?

Just an outstanding player who skyrocketed through the farm but ultimately will be blocked by Altuve for possibly a decade or atleast until Altuve hits free agency in 4-5 seasons from now. And that's not taking into consideration Bregman who could swap positions and whoever else develops during that time.

Or do you keep him as a bench/non everyday player but diminish his trade value?

Hamels is a tough deal to judge. Finally starting to hear Phillies are looking to kick in significant money to offset his contract. Kemp could be in deal, but doubt he would be a headliner.

Kemp, if he can hit MLB pitching, could be a valuable bench player that plays 4-5 times a week. I doubt that would hurt his trade value.

What am I missing when it comes to Chris Devenski? His numbers in AA have been insane, yet no promotion to AAA yet. Also, he hasn't gotten any love in the prospect talk here over the past couple of days. Is he too old for his level at 24 or is it something else?

He's never been that great before. He has an impossible 97.5% strand rate. He's also suddenly keeping people in the yard.

Still, his delivery was tweaked this year, and maybe it is all that was needed.

Jake Nottingham hit a 2-run homer in Quad Cities' 3-3 tie with Great Lakes today. That's his 9th homer of the year.

    Marisnick.

    Either that or trade coming.

really? I'd be surprised if they are sending down Marisnick...despite his struggles he's a great CFer and is still batting at a decent clip. Maybe Tucker/Rasmus involved in a trade?? hmmmm

Maybe they will go to 12 pitchers and just want the extra bat

They have 13 pitchers... they don't need 8 men in the bullpen... something should happen there first.

Having an extra right-handed batting OF is not a bad thing under any circumstance.

Agree but timing would be strange with upcoming games with no DH

Its probably a move they've been contemplating for awhile... Hinch has had a pretty limited bench, and this allows them to get some possible extra pop in there when Tucker/Rasmus/Marisnick all seem to be slumping at the same time (or if they're facing a lefty).

Just a week ago, they had Villar playing in LF for that reason... would much rather see if Santana can do anything out there vs. Villar.

Also, another option in case they have to give Springer a day off.

    possibilities on Santana IMO

    1) DFA Hernandez
    2) Altuve to 15 day DL, retro
    3) trade
    4) Tucker sent down (unlikely)
    5) Marwin sent down (very unlikely, esp with Altuve being questionable)

Pretty sure Hinch said Altuve will start tomorrow. #1 seems the most likely at this point.
