The movie was entertaining but anyone who is saying it was a good movie is kidding themselves. I could've written a better script/story. How could a place that is centered around dinosaurs be so inept at handling them? It was just the laziest "writing" imaginable - 100% predictable, story holes everywhere, and cliche after cliche. But hey it's going to smash box office numbers so why bother focusing on making it good when you can just feed the masses the exact same crap and get rich?
I haven't seen the movie yet, but isn't the dino-antagonist something akin to a giant TRex? (Or something close to that size description?) I mean, it's not like 2-3 zookeepers trying to keep a regular lion in check. It's a giant terrorizing dinosaur. I don't think anyone is expecting it to rival Best Picture winners in terms of storytelling and plot. Just go see it for what it is - a summer blockbuster / popcorn flick.
Exactly. It's the quintessential Summer blockbuster. Who cares if it's not the most intelligent movie ever written! Plus it's not so much that the park was inept at handling dinosaurs but rather they weren't ready for the hybrid dino they created. From the beginning of the movie, it seems like the park had been running for probably a decade or so without any incident. And they had plenty of security measures in place if something did happen. Spoiler Now the ACU team going after I-Rex with little toy tasers is a bit silly. And that they didn't check her location using the tracking device BEFORE going into the paddock, in hindsight, is moronic. And you probably wouldn't be able to start a full size Jeep Wrangler that's been sitting for 20 years just by changing out the battery with one from an atv. But you know what, it's a movie about genetically engineered dinosaurs running amock. The first Jurassic Park, as classic of a movie it is, has plenty of dumb moments too.
It was a summer blockbuster movie. You don't necessarily have to have the smartest writing for it to be entertaining. Sure, there were a lot of dumb plot points to advance the story. Everything had to go perfectly wrong for Indominus rex to escape and wreak havoc. Spoiler Firstly, assuming we can recreate dinosaurs from fossilized material, the gene splicing of perfect predatory traits to make a ninja T. rex capable of hiding its thermal radiation and camouflaging. Plus adding raptor arms and speed. That'd never happen. Second, them going into the paddock before tracking Indominus and allowing the humans inside to open the gate. As callous as it sounds, the control room should never allow those inside to open the gate and risk losing containment. But the movie would've ended there and PC viewers would blast the writers for sacrificing a few to save the many because they're too shallow to realize it's the better decision. Third, ACU was a bunch of chumps. Sure, they didn't know how clever the Indominus was by removing its GPS tracker and camouflaging, but you don't capture a dinosaur with cattle prods. They should have logically carried more lethal weaponry with them. They're dealing with a scarier, engineered carnivore, not Barney. Fourth, the helicopter scene. Major lolz at that. The Indominus chose the best place to find allies to combat the air superiority. He let the pterodactyls out of the cage and they amazingly swarmed the helicopter neutralizing it. Best part was when the passenger got beaked. Realistically, the Indominus never should have escaped. The Indominus escaping wrote the plot instead of the plot writing the Indominus to escape. I had a good time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Jurassic Park was my first movie I can remember watching in theaters and I've had a fascination with dinosaurs since. This was pretty true to the original in capturing the feel of the movie.
Awesome movie. Forget all the plot holes and just enjoy it for the good fun. Easily the best one since the first. There are parts where the CGI is sketchy but as a whole it was fantastic. When you're dealing with that much animation and you nail most of it, you've done well.
JW was one of the most unintentionally funny movies of the year. I laughed so hard at it I nearly cried several times. Turn off your brain or prepare to facepalm.
Isn't the primary point of a movie to entertain? Seems like if it's entertaining, that makes it good by definition. It's not like they made this to be some kind of thoughtful art.
Sounds like a convenient cop-out to me. I'm "entertained" by The Room. Doesn't mean it is a good movie.
Just came back from watching it. Apparently, there's a possibility of sequels. I don't see how Chris Pratt's character would have anything to do with future incidences of dino rampages, though. Spoiler Aside from the "the main lead(s) of the movie never die!" thing, the only characteristic Pratt had was being from the Navy and his bond with the Raptors. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think he had any super redeeming qualities that would help in another outbreak situation. Was a solid movie. I really liked Bryce Dallas Howard. Was also good for Pratt to be case in a non-100% comedic role, or a role in which the majority was comedy. Really showed off his ability to be a leading man.
People have been so overly critical of this movie, as if it was made to win an Oscar for Best Picture. Yeah, there were some plot holes, a cheesy kiss, a divorce line that meant nothing, using a car with 20 year old gas, etc., but who gives a ****? It was an entertaining two hours that did not have dull moments and kept rolling. There is a reason why so many people are seeing it multiple times. The replay value on the movie is great.
I sort of enjoyed it for nostalgia sake, but you'll end up rolling your eyes at stupid parts repeatedly. In some ways it was like a big budget Sharknado.
Spoiler I mentioned that bond. But that loyalty won't be present unless the Raptors show up in future films for some plausible reason. And if they do, that's just lazy writing, imo. Also, the Raptors weren't even what 'saved' the day. They were just distractions which allowed the TRex to (purposefully?) get it into position to be eaten by the dinosaur in the water. And I feel like Pratt's character only had a super good bond with only one of the Raps (Blue?) versus the other 3 or 4. More power to the writers if, in future movies, they can somehow connect Pratt's character to future dino events and make his character useful. I'm just not seeing any plausible connection or skillset that Pratt will have, in relation to future dino events.
You're thinking about it too much, particularly for a movie which asks you to suspend disbelief for practically the entire thing. He was the head raptor trainer, they can make it work. Even if he was the head cotton candy saleman, it would be far from the craziest thing to happen for him to make a reappearance.
Yeah, I guess so. I think I left my brain at the door before watching, but now that I'm a couple of hours removed from watching it, I'm starting to think lol. I'd just like it if they had transitioned into a scene depicting something like Pratt's hiring at some company to deal with dinosaurs or whatever, versus the Guardians of the Galaxy ending. > "What do you want to do? Something good? Something bad? - Pratt > Something along the lines of "your call, Star Lord!" - Howard > They walk out the door. I mean, even Howard's character (the park manager?) has nothing to do now - this should have been the only Dino park, right? And it was destroyed? That can NOT look good on one's resume, haha.
I enjoyed it but I still don't see how raptors would be beneficial in the battlefield. You'd have to go Turok and attach some missles to their head.
