I'm sure it's been posted, but for reference I believe this was the original concept for the mid-90s logo (left) before they went overboard with the rocketshark:
Wow the left one is a million times better. The one they ended up having looks so corny. Im glad we got rid of it a long time ago.
*Sigh, I just want change haha...We should have had our jerseys redisigned back in 2012 when our tag line was "A New Age". New jerseys would have fit perfectly with that marketing campaign
Personally, I wish we would go back to the championship year jerseys. I guess I am just nostalgic. At least they are better than the awful pajama uniforms.
Based on that article that was posted, apparently the jersey sales for those ketchup and mustard uniforms were some of the worst in the league. And one thing the organization found out during market research is that people just don't like the yellow. (I know a lot of people who are not Rockets fans who do not like the combination of red and yellow together). Now, that was 20 years ago when that research was done... but unless people's taste for yellow (or red and yellow together) significantly changed over that period of time, I'm guessing the old color scheme will not be making a full-time comeback.
The gold needs to be more subtle, grey / silvers should dissappear and make way for orange / black. Fire = red, orange and yellow / gold so that could work.
They can't change their team name, though. Possible colors given their team name: Red Orange Silver / Grey Black Yellow Blue Anything else would be a stretch, even though they were green in San Diego. If we are thinking two primary colors, it is important to note: Suns = Orange, Grey (maybe purples one of their primaries, not sure) Heat/Bulls = Red, Black Pacers = Yellow, Black Spurs = Silver, Black Knicks = Blue, Orange Etc. I don't think the Red/Silver combo is the issue. It's not amazing, but not horrible. They just need a better design around it!
I always thought the custom color ways for our "Throwback Alternate" were sweet. I could totally get behind this design!
