The Rockets should try to trade for him and have him sit out a full year. #18 + DMo would be fair right now. Hinkie is prob ready top move on and can draft Porzengis + Jones/Grant and massively upgrade the team. No PG the Rox draft at #18 can help a lot, certainly not Jones. If Morey likes Grant and Morey is right Grant could help. Otherwise, make the trade.
So many injuries, even before playing a single NBA game. I understand the logic of it, but we have gone through this so many times with Yao. Pass.
If 76ers, a rebuilding team, doesn't want Embiid why should we want him? Dude has major foot problems even before starting his NBA career, how do you expect him to play an entire NBA season once he starts getting pounded on by everybody else?
Currently he hasn't done anything really. Crapload of picks and right now only Noel seems to have worked out. Terrible roster and no high-caliber FA will want to join this team. The next two drafts have to be incredible and end up with like three major contributors or they'll be in rebuilding mode for the next years.
He has done some great work actually. When he got there Philly was a treadmill team with no picks. Now they have some young talent. He traded Jrue and Young for great value. He blackmailled the magic with Payton and got back his pick. He sold mcw for an incredible price. He signed convington to the best bargain contract in the league. He got a great developmental coach. so its not like he hasnt done anything. what i dont like is the extremes he is going to. Noel could play from last year. So was reported that could Embiid. Why he traded kj? And worst of all imo is that he hasnt gotten good vets. The lockeroom is a revolving d-league door. That doesnt help young players develop and learn good habits.
Still can't blame Hinkie for gambling on Embiid. Is he probably done.... probably. Can he potentially show up as early as mid-season or next year and start a promising career.... yes. The Sixers know that as long as they don't use their capspace to absorb salary for good players, or sign anyone in free agency worth a damn... they aren't going anywhere this year anyways. The future really becomes what happens with Noel, the #3 pick this year, their lottery pick next year, Saric (who probably comes over next Summer), and some support players like Grant, etc. Actually depending on who they take in this draft, they could have Noel, Saric, and a promising big man regardless (if they take Okafor, Porzingis, or Cauley Stein). Having low expectations and a small role at first for Embiid if and when he gets healthy in the next year or two hopefully makes this still a decent situation. The big move is what Hinkie does as well in the next year or two that involves cap space, and picks that he might trade. That along with a few of these young players turning into quality NBA players will be what turns this franchise around... right now getting Embiid on the court at some point would just be the added bonus.
The Rebuilding continues. I was holding hope that he would come back and make them better. This sucks.
I think they still go for a guard. From the bigs remaining only Kristaps can fit with Noel. Noel is horrible offensively. He cant play pf next to a pure center like Wcs or Ok4. It was alreqdy a big question mark before with Embiid. If they get another center that will serve only to make all three development harder and someone will have to be traded soon. And the price wont be great.

I'm sorry to hear this for Embiid's sake, but I've wanted Sam Hinkie to fail miserably. He deserves ridicule for deliberately putting trash on the floor. If it's true his plan totally hinged on Embiid becoming a superstar, he's an idiot and should be fired.

The problem here though is hinkie's destroying the fan base and the team's credibility so he has to do more than your average team. Trading Jrue for Noels was an awesome move, it that was something he could've done without making the team into a laughingstock. Trading kjm and mcw and also picking saric and embiid could backfire and set the team back multiple years. Not really sure how long his leash is, next year will be year 4 already and the team doesn't look like it has gone a major improvement, compared to the bucks for example 76ers look like crap.
I dont know about destroying the fan base. If u ever come across a philly fan in a forum u will realise most of them have developed a tanking addiction. Already talking about how embiids injury is good because it will help them get ben simmons. its year two btw of the hinkie era. What i am the most interested to see as a neutral fan is how the lack of any good vet will affect the young players. Its a factor that is very downplayed. But in the nba as in every job u learn so much from ur colleagues. As a Bucks fan i keep hearing from our youth how much they learn from Pachulia and Dudley. Team defence how to recognise and exploit missmatches how to not let other players back them down and stand up for themselves how to behave as professionals etc etc. Already last year in Philly there had been problems in the lockeroom among mcw noel and kj. Embiid has been lazy and more interested in making jokes and fooling around than rehabing. I believe a strong vet precense would help put things in order. Now they will add potentially 6 more rookies along with another butch of d leaguers. Pets see how it goes.
Serious question(not to defend Hinkie) but has their been a significantly better player whom he passed on when he made his picks? I'm not saying he drafted well, but looking at the last several drafts it seemed like he just didn't have the opportunity/timing to draft that difference maker. In the last 3 or 4 drafts there have only been a couple of guys who are looking like legit perennial all stars. Seems like the draft has just been really bad for a few years now which is poor timing for a franchise tanking for a pick.
