I knew it was racist, just couldn't fathom that James Earl Jones took part in it... oh, and I'd turn myself black if it gave me a shot at 80s Rae Dawn Chong.

 

Bruce Jenner lied about identifying as a woman for decades because he feared about the repercussions if that had come out earlier. Dolezal lied about her race and claimed discrimination that didn't actually happen. She also got a high ranking position with the NAACP based on her background which isn't true.

I think some people consider this sort of like stolen valor where she is claiming hardship that others have endured yet she actually hasn't but also like misrepresenting yourself to an employer. If she has decided to pass herself as black for those reasons I would say there are flaws in her motivation rather than just as someone who identifies with being black.

I'm sure she'll milk this as much as possible and say she felt she would be a more effective teacher to AA as a black person. She'll get a tv interview out of it.

Seriously though, this isn't as uncommon as it may seem? The reason I think Trans-race is BS though is because it plays into the stereotypes that people create for races.

I don't think it's ever gone this far though where someone straight up lied about it. It's usually just that one asian guy that hangs out with a bunch of black people or that white guy that watches nothing but anime and wants to learn japanese etc etc...I'm willing to bet these people wish they could change their skin, put on some make-up and feel like they better physically represent the 'culture' they are trying to fit into...if they could I bet they would.
