I am probably stepping where I should not, but it seems to me that Morey has to see how the roster shapes up for next season before deciding what to do with Jones. If D-Mo can't come back healthy and Smith goes elsewhere not having Jones might be a very very bad thing.
Seriously though, Jones is the new Lin. He's not any good, but for whatever reason he has a ridiculous fanbase that is completely blind to his deficiencies as a player who dismiss anyone who points out those flaws as "haters". Things will be a lot better around here once he's gone.
He's nothing like Lin. If anyone is like Lin its DMo because there are a small group of fans who think he is a superstar who needs to be the #1 option. But DMo is a better role player
Yup. Lol at anyone saying we would have won 60 games with jones starting all year even without Dwight. We would have won less games than we did.
If we plan to keep Howard it starts by keeping Smith. I'd be very pleased if we can have Dmo start at PF with Smith backing him up and Capela as backup 5 and 3rd string PF. There's not a single thing Jones does better than the combo of Dmo/Smith. I only hope there's 1 or 2 other GM's that believe Jones has trade value like some of the Pro Jones guys in this thread. Moving Jones, Ariza and the NO pick should net us a player like Lawson or hopefully a player of his caliber. I'd hate to lose Ariza but I'n excited about Mcdaniels and what he could possibly bring.
TJo is a better finisher around the rim than DMo or Smith. His percentage around the rim is quite high.
That's absurd. There might be like... 2 people who think that DMO is a NUMBER ONE option. Now number two option? Could be debatable. Morey himself that the most efficient offensive possession outside of anything involving Harden was a DMO post up.
I agree that Jones' trade value is overrated, but he definitely does have some value to a team. I don't think he can be a centerpiece to any significant trade, but he certainly isn't just a "filler". He's still extremely young with unrealized upside. He still has that "raw" and "athletic" mystique about him that is enticing to a rebuilding team. The main reason he needs to be traded is because he is a poor fit for this team.
And you're quite sure you aren't a second account / username for basketballholic, né jopatmc? I don't see any large fanbase for Terrence Jones. A few who defend him, yes, but Jeremy Lin's fanbase was for real: mildly criticize him and you'd feel like Neo against Agent Smith in the 2nd Matrix movie (each time you take another swing at him he just doubles, quadruples, and so on, they would just keep coming out of the woodwork). Tjones is not a great player but he's more than serviceable. A good 24-27 mpg big and not much more. Would I take a decent first round pick for him (16-20)? Sure. Do I think he'll be traded? Yes. To act like he's hot garbage? You're overdoing it.
I think his nerve injury derailed whatever momentum he had going for him from the previous season. He still has glaring holes in his game. Can he be a decent guy coming off the bench? Absolutely. Can he be the power forward we need in the starting lineup? All signs point to no.
He shot 65% around the rim in this year's playoffs. I wonder if the tjones haters even know how to look up stats or even do basic research before posting a million posts on the subject?
The complete inability to finish at the rim being the most glaring of them all. I find this way more amazing than any given player's inability to shoot free throws.
The stats might show that but what should it be within a couple of feet? The fact is he missed easy layups time and time again when it mattered most.
Yes he was finishing worse than in the RG but the stats show he was still finishing around the rim at a high rate. That is his strength.
He got the jitters when he goes up in the paint unless it's wide open. Don't get me started on the way he dribbles with that right arm in block mode 99% of the time.
Jones' game can be quite impressive when he's confident and aggressive. To me, it just looked like he was tentative, passive and psyched out during the GS series. Smith getting the starting role and more minutes over him might have also bruised his psyche, which could definitely lead to under-performing.
I'm sure you weren't speaking of me because I am not a T_ones hater and I have done my homework. Josh Smith shot 66% at the rim during the playoffs, Mr. Clutch. Last time I checked that's better than 64 and change%. Smith also shot 35.7% (basically his career average from that distance) from 3-10 feet compared to Terrence shooting 27.9% from 3-10 feet (which is about 9% below his career average from that distance). To make matters even worse, only 38.4% of Terrence's shots in the playoffs came at the rim compared to over 50% of his shots coming at the rim during the regular season. And to further compound the trouble Terrence shot another 38.4% of his shots from 3-10 feet compared to 29.8% in the regular season. So, his percentage of shots that he took at the rim went DOWN by 12% and his percentage of shots that he normally takes from 3-10 feet went UP by 9% while his percentage of hitting those shots went down 9% from his career averages!! BRAINY BALLER SYNDROME strikes again! Just to spell this out a little further....since we're just doing "basic research" here.....Terrence took a grand total of 61 shots from 0-3 feet during the playoffs. Of those 61 shots he took at the rim 18 of them were splattered back in his grill. That's right...blocked! That's 29.5% of his shots at the rim were blocked. Almost 1/3 of his attempts down low. So....now we understand why he took so few shots at the rim and why he started taking more shots just outside the rim where he sux at shooting, don't we? He didn't want to get swatted. And finally, we really didn't need to go through this exercise if we actually watch the games. When we watched the playoff games it was very clear (for the second post season in a row) that Terrence is totally overmatched on the interior against playoff team's starting (and most of their reserves except for the Clippers) bigs. T_ones is not a better finisher around the rim than Smith is, Mr. Clutch.
