It's one of many things that cuts his players careers short. Too many minutes in games. He apparently has brutal practices. No respect for the rehabbing process w/ Noah. Oh and I completely forgot about Derek Rose. Another one of Thib's masterpieces. The human body can only take so much. Curry 38.6 Thompson 36.4 Paul 37.1 Irving 35.7 Conley 30.4 Ellis 39.4 Leonard 35.7 Teague 33.1 Lowry 32.8 Wall 39.0 Lillard 40.2 LeBron 41.6 Butler 42.2
Game minutes aren't as big of a deal as hard practices. You spent a lot more minutes doing those practices. 3 extra mpg in the playoffs isn't going to make or break someone's career. But if your gripe is about excessive and out dated practice approaches then that is a legit complaint. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-b...thibodeau---practice-was-tough-181655127.html
His gripe appears to be a combination of the two. A ton of minutes in game, combined with brutal practices, is a recipe for disaster. It is definitely a legitimate concern with Thibs, and why I probably wouldn't want him as a HC. Besides, for as good as he is on the defensive side of the ball, his offenses have been just cringe worthy. If yall don't like our offense now, yall would die watching a thibs group.
So back to your original question about number of careers. I see five instances of young stud players who all spent time under Thibs and all had their careers derailed because of injury. Now whether or not Thibs overuse is the direct cause, I don't know, but the evidence is certainly piling up. Tracy McGrady (2004-07 Assistant coach w/Rockets) Yao Ming (2004-07 Assistant coach w/Rockets) Rajon Rondo (2007-10 Assistant coach w/Celtics) Derrick Rose (2010-15 Head coach of Bulls) Joakim Noah (2010-15 Head coach of Bulls) Noah hasn't had the defining injury, but his game sure did fall off a cliff last season at age 30.
I mean it's cool if you want to try to blame him for everything, but I think the connection is pretty loose. I think you are trying too hard to make the connection especially when you are using his years as an assistant coach. There have been tons of players that have played more minutes per game and have not had career ending issues. Even Shaq was averaging 42 mpg in the playoffs during his 3 peat and nearly 39 mpg during the season. http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/mp_per_g_active.html http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/mp_per_g_career.html http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/mp_per_g_active_p.html http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/mp_per_g_career_p.html http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/mp_per_g_progress_p.html
Thibs has issues with things like the monitors players wear to track their movement...seems like he's very old school. I can't imagine he'd work well with Morey...so I doubt he'd be considered.
If you ever listen to JVG talk on podcasts, he's the same way. I love JVG to death, but I would also be a bit uncomfortable with him as HC if it weren't for Morey's oversight. JVG is of the opinion that players should play full minutes every single regular season game because it's what they're paid to do. Not saying he's wrong, but it's the same approach that Thibs have.
I know and I agreed with you about practice habits etc I'm only arguing over my pet peeve of people complaining about mpg. Accept my pet peeve please!
Whoever is the defensive coach for the Cavs is who the rockets need to hire lol. How many open looks did Curry get last night against the Cavs compared to playing against the rockets? They are crowding Curry and all the Warrior shooters on just about every possession, its a thing of beauty IMO. I know the Rockets had two 37 year old PGs, but still no excuse what so ever to give Curry wide open uncontested 3 pt shots, thats poor coaching IMO. Im still proud that they got to the WCF with this team though.
Larsv is truly clueless...and he defends our putrid defense showing in the playoffs to pace...man oh man are you actually serious? Dallas:FG% Game1)45% Game2) 37% Game3)52% Game4)54% Game 5)38% Keep in mind this happend with parsons getting injured and rondo benching himself LAC: Game1)49% without CP3 Game2) 44% Game3)55% Game4)50% Game5)42% Game6)42% Game7)45% GSW: Game1) 47% Game 2)54% Game3)45% Game4)45% Game 5) 41% We didnt hold our opponents under 40% shooting once in the last 2 series (12 games) THAT is pathetic defense and if you think the "pace" is the reason you have just proved to me your basketball knowledge is just ****..its really a catastrophe when someone with zero basketball knowledge is a contributing member He doesent want TT to be an ass coach cuz hes gonna overwork our players , just laughable, cuz obviously they dont need it giving up an average 46% fg percentage throught out the playoffs Then blames our pace for the defense....man get out of here
No. No. No. No..... Thibs is a good coach but the JVG and Pat Riley grind your players down method does not win anything but regular season success. The NBA season is long enough without the kind of practices these coaches put on. If there is any guy I want to be brought back it is Rudy or even CD. Those two were masters at innovations and knew how to manage minutes and practices. They were also extremely passionate about winning that they themselves put in the work to create plays and strategies. The coach can only do so much with the Roster given to them. Our Stars need to be the ones passionate and aggressive enough to want that ring. James Harden should be working this offseason to be the most complete player on our roster and prepare himself mentally. Dwight needs to stop crying and feeling sorry for himself that he didn't win it all but focus it into anger and improving his craft. If those two want to practice hard then they should want to do it on their own, and yes hard work is contagious. But for a coach to force it everyday the way they do without regard to their players health and healing is just ludacrious.
Sure if he is available. I actually did enjoy the defense during the mid 2000s when he was here with JVG.
You hit that nail directly on the head. Thib's is brutal on his players. And that was the reason he was fired.
No, you are the clueless one. The Rockets third and fourth best defensive players did not suit up for the play offs. No D-Mo no answer to small ball. No Bev and no one to sit in the front pocket of the Pauls and the Currys. How does one teach perspective here? I have no clue. But it is an incredibly important skill when analyzing NBA basketball.
