We did not like Shanghai at all. Spent a week there a few years ago. Crowded, smoggy, just not that interesting compared to other places we've been. We did like Hong Kong very much, but we were only able to spend a couple of days there. I'd go back to Hong Kong. Would not go back to Shanghai, but would like to visit Beijing.
I was born in NW Montana and lived there the first 7 years of my life. My folks recently moved back there after spending 25 years in California. Incredible views, I didn't fully appreciate them being so young. I don't think I could go back now, too acclimated to big city life, but maybe in my retirement years I wouldn't mind the views and the peace and quiet. As for me, my family and I will be spending a week at my Uncle's Lake House in Pelican Lake Minnesota. Been a family vacation spot since the 70s. Can't wait to hit the jet skis.

Only been through Billings a few times, but I pretty much spend my whole summer on Flathead Lake. Have yet to run across Phil Jackson though.
Just got back from the Bay Area. Next it's Portland, Oregon. Then, probably sometime in August, we're spending 2-3 weeks in Italy and Greece. After that, we've got a Vegas trip in the works.
It's interesting that you found Shanghai to be crowded and smoggy, but enjoyed Hong Kong. I went to both about 8 years ago, and really enjoyed my time there. However, I've been back to Hong Kong recently, and found myself hating it. For whatever reason, I feel like the charm it had from a few years ago is completely gone. While it's always been crowded, this time I found it to be too much to bear. Maybe it has something to do with the political affiliation that's changed.....I don't know.
Phil grew up in rural North Dakota not far from where my extended family first originated after immigration from Norway. My grandparents once attended a wedding at which he was the best man. My aunt set next to him on a flight once and her and mother were big fans of his while he played for the Knicks. Of course being staunch Lutherans they didn't think as highly of him when they found out he was a Buddhist.
I am going to the Outer Banks next week. I am taking 2 weeks off and I will have a week to get there. I was thinking about driving 4-5 hours a day and camping along the way. Hopefully I can make it to the Great Smoky Mountains, Cape Lookout or Cape Hatteras and a National Forest or 2. If anyone has done any camping out there please give me some tips. I just want to relax, fish, kayak and see the Milky Way before I make it to the beach house. I haven't had a vacation in 3 years so I want to make it count.
Making my annual pilgrimage to Beaumont with m' lady to visit the world's third largest fire hydrant. It used to be the world's largest fire hydrant until some bastards in South Carolina decided to build a bigger one. http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/7358
Was in San Diego a few weeks ago Going to stay at a beach house in Rosemary Beach, Florida in a few weeks My friends and I are renting a party boat on Lake Travis along with a lake house for July 4th .
Have you ever been to fort Morgan? I know the beaches are great with white sand. But is there anything else beside beaches that one can do. Like bars/clubs or maybe parks/reservations. I wanna go for 4th of July but can't decide. Don't wanna be stuck just at the beach all weakend
Thinking of taking a trip to either New Braunfels/Lake Travis area. Any good recommended resorts that are right on the lake/river for either location. Pretty much a noob to anything in central texas.
Where is your extended family at? My father grew up in Fairview, MT which is literally half in Montana and half in North Dakota. His father emigrated there from Norway as well.
They originated in a small town called Gwinner, tucked away in the southeast corner of ND. My Great Grandfather on my grandmother's side created the first Bobcat plant to manufacture the first Bobcat rigs there. I mentioned this one time in a thread and found out that rocketgirl and I are actually distant cousins. Small world. My family is back in Thompson Falls MT now, where I was originally born. Not too far from Polson and Flathead.
Vegas next month for Summer League Progreso/Cozumel via Carnival Cruise end of July Vegas is an bi-annual thing, didn't go odd years since 2008 for various reasons, '09 had my first cruise planned, '11 Lockout year, '13 Rockets were not in Vegas Summer League, only Orlando Cruise was kind of forced since everybody else in my immediate family is going, and had to use the rest of my 5 days vacation days on it, so I'm tapped out of vacation days for the rest of the year
