Hoping that Swanson falls to 2 or that Cameron makes it to 37 bc of bonus demands. I think they'd pick them there in the unlikely event that they dropped to those picks. Also hoping for Rodgers or benintendi over Bergman (at 2) if the dbacks pick Swanson at 1.
Question: If a team fails to sign a Round 1 Compensatory Pick (e.g., the Astros with the #37 pick this year), does it get a compensatory selection (#38?) in the next year's draft? Or is it "use it or lose it" for any pick that isn't one of the top 30 selections?
Between the Correa call up, McCullers going, and the draft, this is excited as I have been for an Astros night in years.
Yep, not sure if i've made special plans to find a good sports bar for a Monday night baseball night before, but i'm going to find a great place for that tonight!
I hear ya. The past several years been brutal! I'm so glad to see light at the end of the tunnel... Fun part of being a fan, experiencing all the lows of the team makes you really appreciate times like these. Having a strong major league club in additions to top picks in the draft, good days ahead guys.
Yes all picks in the first three rounds are protected for two years, including competitive balance A picks. See marlins pick #36 last year for failing to sign 2013 comp pick.

Bregman & Benintendi. No Cameron in his 30 picks, which would make you think he buys into the Astros getting him at 37.

I'd be content with Bregman and Benintendi if it meant Daz at 37. That would be one hell of a first round for Luhnow and Elias.
McDaniels has Bregman (2), tucker (5), and Cameron (37) in his final mock draft. He also reports that he's been told Swanson is the dbacks pick at 1. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-final-mock-draft/ I don't love Bregman at 2, but if the astros can get cameron at 37, and walk away with 3 of the top ~8 players in the draft, then it'd be an amazing coup.
Can anyone shed light on the draft strength of this class? I keep reading 2014 was stronger, and 2016 will be better also. Weak?
From reports from the draftniks, there is only 1-2 players that would normally be drafted in the first 5-8 picks. The Astros pick at No. 2 may not make the top 100 prospect lists by the end of the year.
