I'm assuming you're talking about the man that he defended and not the team. Since if you were referring to the team only scoring 10 points that would be a totally ridiculous statement since no defender in the history of basketball including the great Bill Russell ever held a team to 10 points individually. So, this is acceptable. If he held every opponent player he faced to 10 points or less that would probably be considered pretty dominant. But even more simple than that is to watch game video of him playing and understand what he did for the team defensively. And understand what happened to their defense when he sat down. And understand what happened to the team after he was dismissed. Robert Upshaw has NBA length big time. And he's got NBA athleticism big time. That's fairly obvious to call. He has a legit shot to be this year's Hassan Whiteside IF (and that's a BIG IF) he boots the drugs and gets serious about his career. We've seen more from Upshaw dominating competition BEFORE he has played a minute in the league than we saw from Capela dominating competing BEFORE he played a minute in the league. Gotta know what you're looking at. Upshaw has obvious NBA game. He'd be a top lottery pick if not for his character issues. NBA scouts themselves will verify that for you if you doubt his potential.
I can see Morey possibly picking him up as a free agent but he seems too risky to be picked up in the draft. Plus we already have Capela on the roster and he's shown to have great potential as a back up center and possibly a future starting center if we no longer have Dwight on our team.
I don't care how good Upshaw was now versus Capela before he went to the NBA, your statement was this dude is a better defender than Capela now, unless you meant before both of them entered the NBA. If you mean this college person is better than then Capela now who has undergone 1 year of NBA experience and conditioning then I think you are off your rocker because blocking 4 blocks against slow unathletic college kids with limited bball knowledge can't even compare to defending NBA superstars like Dirk, Griffin and De Andre Jordan in the playoffs. Lots of players come in with NBA length and athleticism, the problem is most of them lack the diligence to work on their games, the heart to take the contact or the brain to understand the flow of the NBA game. He may be a big difference maker in his college team but in the NBA how far will just his natural talent take him? In terms of raw impact I don't think he was as dominant as Beasley so IMHO he'd have to be a bit more mature than Beasley to make it in the NBA. Considering his drug issues seem more severe than Beasley and he can't even keep it together for 1 whole season AND this is the second time he's been kicked of a college team I wouldn't even waste a roster spot on the guy let alone an actual draft pick. In terms of Risk/Reward I just don't think his ceiling justifies the potential headache he'll bring to the squad, esp. on a team like the Rox that doesn't have a disciplinarian coach and is already 4 deep in the C spot (Dwight/Capela/Dmo/best C in Europe). I mean if we're talking about Demarcus Cousins level of talent then ok fine, but we're not, he just projects as your typical mid-lotto big man but with massive risk. IMHO it would be better to settle for a guy who doesn't have as high a ceiling but also isn't a cokehead. I mean with Capela and DMo already on the squad whoever we draft would probably just be a backup anyway.
I'm intrigued but we already have CC. He's gonna be even better next year and the year after that. Not sure about Upshaw and him not being able to stay off the drugs etc... why even deal with any of that? So many good players available with the 18. Just not many point guards.
If we were to sign a PG at 18, there are a few good players at 32. Rakeem Christmas is 6-9, but 7-3 wingspan. 4 year guy. Can defenitely get minutes at backup 4 is TJones or Smoove were gone next year.
Robert Upshaw In Holding Pattern, Awaiting Further Medical Tests by: Jonathan Givony - President June 5, 2015 An issue with Robert Upshaw's heart was identified by doctors at the NBA Combine in Chicago last month, which has forced him to suspend training and postpone all workouts with NBA teams. At this point, no long term conclusions have been reached, and further blood testing has been requested by NBA doctors to pinpoint the exact nature of his medical condition. We reached out to Upshaw's agent, Bill Duffy, for comment. "Robert and his family have been fully aware of his medical history. Twice previously this was addressed by highly respected University Cardiologists and Robert was subsequently cleared for all basketball activities. The NBA Combine Doctors are now waiting for the results of a final test, which will be known in a week's time. For good reason, we take this very seriously and support the physicians doing their due diligence. Based on the outcome of previous evaluations, we expect his full clearance. Robert's health comes first and the progress he was making prior to this break in activity was exceptional. We are confident once his training is resumed he'll continue to be in a really good position going forward." http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Robert-Upshaw-In-Holding-Pattern-Awaiting-Further-Medical-Tests-5057
