This team will need to learn to manufacture runs if it wants to take the next step. Teams like the Giants/Cardinals win championships with sac flies and timely singles.
oh come on. What a silly statement. If Tucker worked a walk, you'd have been praising the hell out of the decision to go with him and his patience
Hope Astros learn from this. Gotta do better in these type of situations. Biggest failure of that inning was Springer. He is very talented but is not a polished enough hitter overall to reach his full potential.
Yep... so was the hanging slider McCullers left up for the 3rd out/complete game last night. A game of millimeters.
lol, yeah i feel like no one mentioned that anywhere. It was the most replayed pitch, and such a hanger to a HR hitter in a huge spot
I said before the at-bat that Tucker should have been in there because he's a much better hitter than Rasmus and because he strikes out half as many times. There's no advantage to Rasmus batting in that situation if the goal is to bring home a run. A walk is a fine job by Rasmus, but ultimately, it did nothing for the Astros. With one out, it's more crucial to get a run home via a hit or sac fly...and Preston is superior to Colby in both of those categories.
At that point, nobody was going to complain about a single pitch on such a magical night... 21 year old, 11 strikeout complete games are rare.... but yes, that was a hanging slider begging to be crushed. It did workout like a pseudo-changeup though. Jones definitely did not miss that Qualls pitch... eh, its hard to beat any team 4 games in a row, no matter how good/bad they are.
