Just need another scorer that can put pressure on defenses while stretching out the floor. We made it this far without a PG that could defend, score consistently, etc. If we had a PG that could've put pressure on the Warriors defense and take the ball out of Josh smiths hands, we probably win the series. We aren't going to find a perfect compliment especially with our limited capspace and limited assets. The perfect PG would be CP3 or Conley but that's a pipe dream. So you have to get a player that will compliment the roster offensively and try to have the team defense adjusted to stop the other players. We need a PG that will abuse Curry's poor defense consistently. Tiring him out itself probably would've slowed him down enough.
Agree, he sucks. Rubio is shooting 36% from the field and 26% from 3-pt land. http://espn.go.com/nba/player/stats/_/id/4011/ricky-rubio
He probably also doesn't want to become just an off-ball player. Any playmaker we get also has to be able to play off-ball. So Rubio would not work. Rondo would not work.
Darren Collison would be a very quality pickup especially of Sac does manage to get LAwson and and Faried from Denver. Hes a jack of all trades PG and should be cheap.
It's a fact that Rubio is a better defensive player than Bev. He's probably th best defensive PG in the NBA not named Rondo
They both defend the PG position, and I think they're the two most effective in the league at doing so. Smart sometimes draws bigger assignments because of his size, but when he does check PGs, they're overwhelmed by his strength & physicality. I think he'll be 1st-team All NBA Defense numerous times over the next decade.
if it's your main job like it is for bradley then he better be pretty good at it. smart still remains to be seen
Having another party maker would help. For someone to come off the bench, let Harden rest, take care of the ball, and all while keeping the offense running effectively is important. If beverley ran around more, if there were more off ball screens for beverley specifically then we would have a player who could get open shots (and possibly open layups), decent from 3, excellent defense, and tires out the opposing PG all without the cost of a playmaker who we would probably pay a premium.
Iam in the minority but i dont believe beverely is worth more than 4 million a year Hes a warrior but his basketball skills given his injury risk with the reckless way he plays doesnt translate for me to more than that which i think he will defenitly get in the open market. Having said that its a good thing we can extend the qualifying offer giving us time to seek a replacement and give us a better understanding of how to move forward weather we do find a viable replacement either through trade(lawson) or MLE (Lull) Our main focus this offseason IMO should be on a big upgrade for the PG position, because i do believe DMO, Smith, Howard, Capela is a great rotation of bigs we can slot in the C and PF positions, but we will never win big having beverly and terry as our pg rotation imo. WE had a great year and i hope morey realizes that the changes this year can be small, and still make a big impact.
I hope Rockets can find a way to land Ty Lawson. Hell, even old Kirk Hinrich would be an upgrade on this squad.
Ricky Rubio held opponents to 33% FG pct, 0.65 pts per play in isolation in 2013-14 -- fewest pts per iso play of any guard (min 80 plays). Per ESPN stats
