Random question: Would Harden get to the free throw line at a good rate if he played in the 1970s-80s?
I don't know, would Kevin Durant? KD: 9.3 FTAs in 2013; 9.9 FTAs in 2014 (lower FTAs in 2015, but he barely played) JH: 10.2 FTAs in 2013; 9.1 FTAs in 2014 (10.2 FTAs in 2015) And yes, KD is infamous for the "rip-through" move of getting fouls, to the point where the NBA made it no longer a valid way of getting to the line...though enforcing it is another matter as KD still often utilizes it to draw fouls. Not sure why people are always on Harden's nuts for drawing fouls. He draws a lot of fouls because he drives to the basket a lot and gets a lot of contact lol. He holds the ball farther out to get more contact, yet is strong enough and fast enough to not just lose the ball each time. It's a great skill. Yes, he's flopped a few times (like uh, every NBA player) and loves making exaggerated motions when fouled. But emphasizing a foul doesn't mean you WERE NOT fouled. Refs are human and miss a lot of fouls. Highlighting a legit foul does not somehow make the foul illegitimate. People get caught up in the media hype so often... EDIT: FYI, young Kobe, who still drove into the lane a lot, had 10+ FTAs a season for three straight seasons from 2005 to 2007. And he never 'sacrificed his body' like Dwayne Wade did in how he garnered contact. Even his Airness, MJ, had nearly 12 FTAs in 1987, 10.5 FTAs the following year, and 9.8 FTAs the year after that.
probably moreso, fouls were more frequent then, it's just they let post players beat each other up. They didn't really need to exaggerate contact then because ghost calling was more frequent.
Props to Beard getting his pub. When he gets props, H gets props Cowherd effect. He claims all Beard can do is score. How is a 2010er gonna be a LOF? Best looking athlete ever? Definitely top 5
