Patty Mills would be a nice fit.

He is certainly not a good coach though.

true that, but as long as he continues to do what Morey tells him he will continue to be our coach....

He's a top 10 coach. Maybe even top 5 in the league after Pop and Budenholzer

    Your opinion.

Opinions vary widely on that topic. Mine is he is bottom 10.

How do you even quantify what makes a good coach vs a bad one, and rank them?

How are wins and losses NOT the ultimately judgement call?

Are we judging coaching by complexity of X's and O's? What about complex X's and O's coaches that don't win a high percentage? What about complex coaches who players hate playing for? What about simple coaching schemes that players love playing for? Do you get more points as a coach for running the Princeton offense vs. High pick and roll?

    .............

Around here it seems to boil down to if you've wanted him gone since day one, even if he won you the title, you'd still want his head on a spike. Either you judge the results or you just judge based on reputation. I can't tell you whether to like or to not like/want McHale, but what I can tell you is I will continue to judge based on results. As long as the team continues to improve and win at a higher rate year after year I see no reason in firing him just because you don't think he's complex enough as an X's and O's coach.

Lots of ways to define 'good coach'. On the record, certainly this season, how can one argue?

Thibs is the best, tho. Right? Certainly in the discussion. Right?

Hey, bro - - the door is 4 seconds away. You have two to be through it.

So, I cannot quantify a good coach but I can see what I can see,

I don't think they very widely on this topic though. I'd bet my house that more than 70% of NBA people don't think McHale is a bottom 10 coach.

Add to that, almost daily rotation changes due to endless number of injuries.

I think there is a discussion to be had as to whether or not he is the right coach to take the team to the next level but anyone that thinks he is not one of the better coaches is living with their head in the sand.

It's unfortunate that most fans tend to use this line of reasoning to judge a coach. Sure, it's sort of like making a judgment on Global Warming by opening the window to see if it's hot or cold outside, but you gotta admit, if a coach doesn't look like a good coach, he can't be a good coach.

The refrain in national sports media down the stretch of the regular season & throughout the playoffs has been that McHale is underrated as a coach. He takes infinitely more heat here than anywhere else, which I suppose is to be expected -- but I think it's interesting that "outsiders" view him much more favorably than a lot of fans. People have great difficulty backing away from an opinion/agenda they've advanced for so long, I think... I, for one, can admit that I view McHale a lot differently this season than I did before. Players improve, so can coaches.
