Yeah well its not the cimbine to judge from. He has years of college to judge. I dont think he has worked out for the Rox yet so theres still hope. I think he will be just an average shooter who will have trouble defending or doing anything else at the pros. Just my opinion ofc.
Need a shooter? And what about the lack of effort and poise in some of those playoff games?... Does that shooter change that dynamic?
I'm not advocating Thibs. Don't think it will happen. Only mentioned one time as a possibility. As far as Rox "firing" McHale....stay tuned.
Glad you have backed away from Thibs, a very good coach but a nearly impossible fit. The only way I can see McHale leaving is if he wants to leave. If the Rockets screwed up anywhere it wasn't targeting an Adams or Malone to be the top assistant.
The top assistant is Finch. And I am speculating that we are going to discover that Morey (and Harden) wants to go away from McHale and towards Finch. In my opinion, McHale's greatest asset is his player relationships and recruiting ability. With Howard in the fold, and Love having gone to CLE, and the 2015-16 off season and season before us, where more likely than not, most of the upper echelon free agents are going to take 2-year contracts with a player opt out next summer, McHale has somewhat lost his luster in regards to player recruitment. I don't think McHale, after 4 years of coaching this team, has enhanced his value to possible free agents. Quite the contrary, I suspect his coaching is now presenting a problem for free agent recruitment. On the other hand, Chris Finch has been Morey's coach in the wings for some time now. And, just watching this team over the course of this season, I personally feel that McHale is somewhat shutting Finch out. Maybe not intentionally. But you can see it in the timeout huddles. In my opinion, not nearly enough direct coaching by Finch to the team. Most of the timeout huddle was McHale preaching to them about effort, etc. Our offensive plays coming out of timeouts....mundane. I happen to believe we are going to move McHale out and probably promote Finch...that is if Morey still feels like Finch is the future. Or Morey may be disappointed in both McHale and Finch and decide to go a different coaching direction altogether. Maybe steal Messina from the Spurs or some other coaching get that is a strategic move to entice other current and future free agents that Morey hopes to attract. For the reasons I stated above, plus some very subtle hints from guys like Doc Rocket, etc. I think McHale is going to be moved out.
Wait wait wait, getting to the WCF and recruiting dwight hasn't helped McHales clout? We know nothing of Finch's relationship with McHale. This is all speculation.
But why would the organization give McHale the extension if they were even considering replacing him? And is Finch actually the top assistant? It sure seems like Bickerstaff is when you watch the games.
Exactly my thoughts. If getting the team that few believed to the wcf doesnt help mchale as recruiter then nothing would. Changing a coach now esp one as loved by his players as Mchale would be very negative for recruitment. and not all big Fa stars will sign 1+1 next summer. Esp those who are near 30. Not with a new cba going to be negotiated and the players facing another uncertainty on their future with the owners already threatening for a hard cap.
I'm pretty sure Bickerstaff is higher on the totem pole than Finch is. Finch was promoted from the RGV Vipers. Bickerstaff has been with McHale since they were in Minnesota.
wasn't there a lot of chatter earlier this seasonabout bickerstaff being highly coveted around the league, and possibly leaving this summer?
I'm not any side of the debate on this. But what we do know about Chris Finch is that Morey believes in him to the point that he relieved Rick Adelman when Adelman refused to appoint Finch among his top assistants. Adelman was all aboard for a rebuild. Finch was the dealbreaker.
many people on the board don't understand the value of people like Doc Rocket. They just see that what he says doesn't pan out and say "see he's no insider". If the Rox are after Brooks, but don't get him, its not Doc Rockets fault the Rockets couldn't pull it off - yet people here will stupidly use that as proof that he's no insider.
I don't get it either. Gasol only makes sense if he's replacing Dwight. They cannot possibly play together on the floor. The reason Gasol and Randolph work so well as a tandem is because the latter has a legit postup game and can hit the midrange jumper. Dwight's offense consists of dunks and layups. And of course, why would the Rockets wanna replace Dwight with Gasol? He just finished a great playoff run where he was arguably our best player and led us to the WCF. That's one round further than Gasol took his team. Now Aldridge would be a perfect fit alongside Dwight. I could understand the Rockets showing interest in him(although he's reportedly far more interested in the Spurs and Mavs).
There is a poor history of teams moving up far enough to get a coveted draft target. Usually we're talking a couple of slots, or even out of the 1st round. If Doc sez Brooks is on the radar I believe it. If Brooks is on the Board at 15, 16 and DM the GM hasn't efforted to acquire the pick, then no, Brooks was not the man.
